Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Final Session

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 31st annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Megan Meyer Runs 13.809/85.23, Now #30; Best prior run: 13.692/86.73, Was #30
Right Lane: Buddy Domingue Runs 8.261/149.07, Now #26; Best prior run: 11.135/84.19, Was #29

Domingue has problems late in the run and is off the throttle early. Meyer has traction problems early.

Left Lane: Monroe Guest Runs 5.287/274.94, Now #3; Best prior run: 10.793/105.26, Was #29
Right Lane: Christine Chambless Runs 5.457/246.03, Now #17; Best prior run: 9.576/130.07, Was #27

Chambless makes a full pass but still doesn't get in the show. Guest goes right down the groove with a good pass to move up to the third spot in the order.

Left Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 16.206/70.71, Now #29; Best prior run: 9.998/80.50, Was #29
Right Lane: Josh Hart Runs 5.315/269.40, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.742/215.24, Was #27

Hart makes a full pull this time and moves up to the eighth spot. Massey rattles the tires at the hit and is off the throttle early.

Left Lane: Kirk Wolf Runs 5.904/239.53, Now #27; Best prior run: 5.851/245.05, Was #27
Right Lane: Darvin Martinets Runs 5.822/253.33, Now #26; Best prior run: 5.732/191.13, Was #26

Wolf makes a full pass but is well off the pace. Martinets slows from his earlier attempt.

Left Lane: David Sheetz Runs 5.819/247.11, Now #25; Best prior run: 5.676/257.38, Was #25
Right Lane: Terry Schmidt Runs 5.519/261.22, Now #20; Best prior run: 5.597/257.78, Was #23

Sheetz gets out of the groove around half track but stays on the throttle. Schmidt improves and moves up a few spots.

Left Lane: Karl Brounkowski Runs 6.362/225.90, Now #24; Best prior run: 5.659/229.86, Was #24
Right Lane: Alex Laughlin No Time, Now #23; Best prior run: 5.585/265.38, Was #23

Brounkowski hits the throttle and has several cylinders out. The dragster struggles all the way through the run and he doesn't improve. Laughlin broke and did not make a pass.

Left Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 5.299/267.85, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.570/265.95, Was #22
Right Lane: David Brounkowski Runs 5.392/258.62, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.504/252.33, Was #19

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove. Hirata makes a big improvement and moves all the way to the seventh spot. Brounkowski improves and gets in the field for now.

Left Lane: Rob McKinley Runs 5.503/255.87, Now #21; Best prior run: 5.561/256.11, Was #22
Right Lane: James Thompson Runs 5.288/265.22, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.421/258.96, Was #18

Thompson goes right down the groove with a good run and moves up to the fifth spot. McKinley runs a career best but doesn't make the show.

Left Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.352/269.29, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.438/268.60, Was #19
Right Lane: Jay Livingston Runs 5.591/185.05, Now #19; Best prior run: 5.418/263.46, Was #18

Thacker improves and gets in the show in the 15th spot. Livingston slows and drops a spot in the order.

Left Lane: Chase Copeland Runs 12.104/61.49, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.397/275.06, Was #17
Right Lane: Gary Cooper Runs 5.335/266.64, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.413/262.85, Was #18

Copeland loses traction at the hit, gets about 100 feet out and gives up on the run. Cooper goes right down the groove with a career best and gets in the show in the 13th spot, bumping out David Brounkowski.

Left Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 5.258/273.61, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.346/273.27, Was #15
Right Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.305/271.24, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.336/269.78, Was #14

Bateman goes right down the groove and improves to the third spot. Demke improves and moves up to the tenth spot.

Left Lane: Lee Callaway Runs 12.459/61.61, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.306/271.35, Was #11
Right Lane: Gord Gingles Runs 5.260/275.39, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.335/274.50, Was #14

Callaway goes up in smoke at the hit and gives up on the run. Gingles improves and moves all the way to the fourth spot.

Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.202/281.66, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.298/272.56, Was #9
Right Lane: Bradley Thompson Runs 5.344/259.01, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.326/265.90, Was #14

Fricke goes right down the groove with a career best pass and moves all the way to the second spot in the order. Thompson slows a little from his earlier attempt and will stay in the 14th spot.

Left Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.292/271.84, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.287/272.06, Was #7
Right Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 5.326/271.30, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.290/272.61, Was #9

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove, but neither driver improves.

Left Lane: Bill Litton Runs 5.279/274.16, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.244/279.79, Was #3
Right Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 25.747/23.60, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.190/274.05, Was #1

McPhillips hits the throttle, goes up in smoke and gives up on the run quickly. Litton makes a good pass but doesn't improve.

That does it for Top Alcohol qualifying. The Seattle finals will be tomorrow at 11:30AM.
