TOPEKA, Kan. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 28th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: John Hale Runs 4.138/280.54, Now #13; No Prior Run

7:26 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 62 percent, barometer 28.85 inches, adjusted altitude 2,347 feet, track temperature 78 degrees.
A decent looking run by Hale, although he was off the throttle early.

John Hale's incremental times: 60ft-0.928 sec., 330ft-2.352, 660ft-3.328/267.27 mph.

Left Lane: Chad Head Runs 3.974/320.74, Now #10; Best prior run: 8.816/67.68, Was #17

A good looking pass for Head.

Chad Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.892 sec., 330ft-2.282, 660ft-3.214/275.51 mph.

Left Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 4.363/227.38, Now #16; Best prior run: 8.553/76.01, Was #17
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.015/312.71, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.186/242.45, Was #15

Creasy started trailing heavy smoke at 600 feet and he lifted. No visible problems for Tasca.

Left Lane: John Force No Time, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.107/326.00, Was #14
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.923/311.41, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.985/307.37, Was #11

Force shook the tires on the launch. He pedaled it, got out of shape and tagged the wall. Pedregon runs a career best ET.

Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.883 sec., 330ft-2.233, 660ft-3.150/276.46 mph.

Left Lane: Brian Stewart Runs 4.075/287.41, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.080/295.79, Was #13
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 3.889/320.66, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.958/321.42, Was #10

Stewart's engine started going away just before the finish. Johnson sets the track ET record.
