COMMERCE, Ga. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 36th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Brian Pretzel Runs 14.129/52.69, Now #23; Best prior run: 11.003/73.60, Was #23
6:36 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 35 percent, barometer 29.16 inches, adjusted altitude 2,943 feet.
Pretzel has problems right off the line
and clicks it off before he gets 200 feet out.
Left Lane: Michael Ray Runs 6.964/192.38, Now #9; Best prior run: 10.046/97.98, Was #22
Ray makes a full pass this time and improves to the ninth spot for now.
Left Lane: Lance Bonham Runs 7.229/183.17, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.251/183.64, Was #22
Right Lane: Jim Underdahl No Time, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.196/161.87, Was #21
Underdahl's bike dumped a lot of fluid on the track when he started to do a burnout and did not make a pass. Bonham improves a little but is still well off the pace.
Left Lane: David Hope Runs 7.048/188.41, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.108/186.82, Was #19
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.972/191.05, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.178/160.84, Was #20
Smith makes a full pass this time and gets into the sixes. Hope improves but is still off the pace.
Left Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.046/188.38, Now #20; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 7.020/187.52, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.038/187.34, Was #18
DeSantis makes a clean pass but doesn't get in the show. Smith improves a little and moves up to the 15th spot.
Left Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 7.011/190.62, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.041/192.00, Was #19
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.001/190.00, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.005/190.70, Was #14
Berry almost equals his run from the first round and will stay in the 14th spot. Arana improves and moves up to the 15th spot.
Left Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.977/191.10, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.036/190.81, Was #19
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 6.959/194.13, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.977/193.88, Was #12
Pollacheck makes a clean pass and improves but he doesn't make it into the top twelve. Phillips makes a good pass and gets in the field for now.
Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.969/190.70, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.026/190.24, Was #19
Right Lane: Melissa Surber Runs 6.932/190.30, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.966/192.17, Was #11
Surber makes a clean pass and improves, moving up to the third spot for now. Johnson improves and gets in the 12th spot for now.
Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.933/192.69, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.026/190.89, Was #19
Right Lane: Cory Reed Runs 6.978/188.44, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.952/190.38, Was #9
Gann goes right down the groove with a good pass to move up to the fourth spot for now. Reed slows from his earlier attempt and drops a spot to tenth.
Left Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.950/192.47, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.000/193.05, Was #16
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.898/192.22, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.952/191.84, Was #9
Hines makes an impressive pass, the first in the '80's this weekend, and he takes the top spot for now. Savoie improves and moves up to the tenth spot.
Left Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 6.865/193.32, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.943/190.81, Was #8
Right Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.110/191.62, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.949/190.89, Was #9
Sampey makes an impressive pass here, right down the groove with the quickest pass of the weekend to move into the top spot for now. Ellis makes a clean pass but was falling well behind all the way through the run.
Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.950/192.49, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.940/192.19, Was #8
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 6.907/193.82, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.937/194.04, Was #7
Stoffer makes a clean pass and moves up to the third spot for now. Arana slows and stays in the eighth spot.
Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.911/194.80, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.918/192.80, Was #5
Right Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.927/192.93, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.910/193.63, Was #4
Krawiec improves a little but not enough to move up in the order. Tonglet slows from his earlier attempt and stays in the fourth spot to end this session.
