CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Eighth annual NHRA Carolina Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Right Lane: Brandon Greco Runs 5.600/253.75, Now #12; Best prior run: 8.115/81.60, Was #14

2:05 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 89 degrees, relative humidity 44 percent, barometer 29.32 inches, adjusted altitude 3,452 feet, track temperature 108 degrees.

Greco makes a clean, straight pass this time and moves up to the 12th spot for now.

Right Lane: Don Nolan Runs 5.650/255.73, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.933/255.43, Was #14

Nolan makes a little move to the left, then back to the right, then straightens it out and improves over his first attempt.

Left Lane: Lee Callaway Runs 5.425/265.38, Now #10; Best prior run: 21.286/28.02, Was #18
Right Lane: Mike Burns Runs 5.610/252.38, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.713/204.01, Was #14

Callaway went up in smoke on his first attempt. He keeps the slicks stuck this time and moves up to the tenth spot. Burns improves but stays in the 14th spot as Callaway goes around him.

Left Lane: Mia Tedesco Runs 5.397/263.77, Now #8; Best prior run: 17.175/51.18, Was #18
Right Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 7.106/127.39, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.449/263.77, Was #12

Tedesco had traction problems in the first round but makes a clean pass here to move all the way to the eighth spot. Thacker had problems late in the run and was off the throttle early.

Left Lane: Karen Stalba Runs 6.051/222.77, Now #17; Best prior run: 10.965/97.49, Was #18
Right Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 5.543/249.21, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.421/244.52, Was #10

Stalba was another driver that had traction problems in the first round and isn't in the field. She leaves the line, keeps the tires stuck, but the engine was struggling all the way through the run. Bradshaw makes a clean pass but slows from his earlier attempt.

Left Lane: Tom Fox Jr. Runs 5.483/260.61, Now #14; Best prior run: 9.331/79.40, Was #18
Right Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.456/267.27, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.403/269.29, Was #9

Fox rattled the tires on his first attempt and was off the throttle early. No problems on this pass, a career best ET for Fox as he gets in the field in the 14th spot for now. Meyer makes a clean pass but slows from his earlier attempt.

Left Lane: Wayne Morris Runs 5.613/261.78, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.441/265.90, Was #12
Right Lane: Jake Allen Runs 5.594/249.58, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.390/263.87, Was #6

Morris and Allen both make clean, stright passes but neither is able to improve.

Left Lane: Josh Hart Runs 5.423/257.87, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.390/263.05, Was #7
Right Lane: Tripp Tatum Runs 5.445/261.62, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.363/267.06, Was #5

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove but neither improve.

Left Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.372/260.61, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.361/266.64, Was #4
Right Lane: Brandon Booher Runs 9.963/82.15, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.325/271.95, Was #3

Booher had problems early in the run and was out of the throttle about 300 feet out. McPhillips makes another good pass but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 13.661/68.52, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.248/270.75, Was #1
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.335/272.39, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.277/271.68, Was #2

Samsel has traction problems early and had to give up on the run. Samsel makes a decent pass but doesn't improve.
