Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #3
By Larry Sullivan

BROWNSBURG, Ind. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 61st annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 6.657/209.62, Now #13; No Prior Run

11:15 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 55 percent, barometer 29.20 inches, adjusted altitude 3,317 feet, track temperature 96 degrees.

Only the top twelve from yesterday got to keep their times, the rest start over today.

Nobile's car has been having problems getting off the starting line and this run was no different - a 1.022 60-foot time is sub-par for the class and he was slightly quicker yesterday.

Left Lane: John Gaydosh Jr Runs 6.681/206.48, Now #14; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 15.258/55.77, Now #15; No Prior Run

Schmidt had some problems backing the car up after the burnout, almost tangling with the starting line barriers. Gaydosh made his best run of the event, we'll have to wait to see if it's good enough to keep him in the field. Schmidt launched into tire shake and slowed.

Left Lane: Aaron Stanfield Runs 6.636/208.84, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Chris McGaha Runs 20.115/40.11, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.605/209.17, Was #11

McGaha had a bad second run, so he runs early in this session, but he's already in the field based on his first run.

McGaha launched into hard shake and he coasted through. Stanfield made his best run of the weekend.

Left Lane: Alex Laughlin Runs 6.628/209.20, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Wally Stroupe Runs 6.962/198.15, Now #17; No Prior Run

Steve Schmidt is on the bump spot at 15.258 - that will change.

Stroupe's car made a big move toward the centerline and he fought it to stay in his own lane. Laughlin made his best run of the event and he's now 13th.

Now John Gaydosh Jr is on the bump spot at 6.681.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.612/209.07, Now #12; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Kenny Delco Runs 6.706/203.95, Now #18; No Prior Run

Morgan missed the provisional field by two thousandths yesterday.

Morgan made his best run of the weekend to move into the 12th spot. Delco wasn't quick enough, has one more shot at qualifying later today.

Now Vincent Nobile is on the bump spot at 6.657.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.588/209.95, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.589/209.49, Was #9
Right Lane: Matt Hartford Runs 6.647/208.39, Now #16; No Prior Run

Hartford is the last of the "did not make the provisional field" drivers.

Coughlin improved a thousandth over yesterday. Hartford missed the cut yesterday with a quicker run, but this one was good enough to put him on the bump spot today and the remaining drivers are already in the field.

Left Lane: Bo Butner Runs 6.584/209.88, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.582/210.50, Was #8
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.651/208.68, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.620/209.01, Was #13
