POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 50th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Bill Burkhart Runs 7.388/180.12, Now #2
Right Lane: Gert-Jen Laseur Runs 7.298/173.58, Now #1

11:34 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 69 degrees, relative humidity 61 percent, barometer 28.90 inches, adjusted altitude 2,486 feet, track temperature 85 degrees.

We start professional qualifying with two first timers to the The Big Show! NHRA Career best guaranteed for both of them ! Laseur is riding the bike that Angelle Sampey has been riding.

Both bikes make clean passes, but the times may not hold for the session.


Left Lane: Lance Bonham Runs 8.164/170.13, Now #4
Right Lane: Rhett Lougheed Runs 7.409/142.90, Now #3

Bonham has problems off the line and coasts on down.

Lougheed drifts over towards the center line and stays there right on down the track.

Rhett Lougheed's incremental times: 60ft-1.122 sec., 330ft-2.961, 660ft-4.513/156.92 mph, 1,000ft-5.943.

Left Lane: Redell Harris Runs 11.459/71.08, Now #6
Right Lane: Elvira Karlsson Runs 6.970/185.72, Now #1

Harris' engine isn't happy and he is off the throttle early.

Karlsson makes the first representative pass and takes over the top spot.

Elvira Karlsson's incremental times: 60ft-1.047 sec., 330ft-2.849, 660ft-4.404/156.84 mph, 1,000ft-5.776.

Left Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 6.968/194.32, Now #2
Right Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 6.952/191.05, Now #1

Two good passes this time and new top spots. Camarena makes his first ever six second pass for the number two spot.

Strong pass for Sullivan to take over the top spot.

Freddie Camarena's incremental times: 60ft-1.087 sec., 330ft-2.912, 660ft-4.462/158.19 mph, 1,000ft-5.813.
Katie Sullivan's incremental times: 60ft-1.062 sec., 330ft-2.878, 660ft-4.426/157.96 mph, 1,000ft-5.783.

Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 13.755/57.88, Now #10
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.968/191.57, Now #3

Underdahl's bike isn't happy and he sits up early.

Gann makes a clean pass into the current #3 spot.

Shawn Gann's incremental times: 60ft-1.070 sec., 330ft-2.889, 660ft-4.441/157.54 mph, 1,000ft-5.800.

Left Lane: Adam Arana Runs 6.936/193.24, Now #1
Right Lane: Chaz Kennedy Runs 6.974/187.42, Now #6

This is Arana's last race before joining the Coast Guard. He makes the best of it and rides his Buell into the latest #1 position on a straight and true pass.

Kennedy uses a lot of track getting to the finish line and will stay in the top half of the field.

Adam Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.061 sec., 330ft-2.881, 660ft-4.425/158.63 mph, 1,000ft-5.777.
Chaz Kennedy's incremental times: 60ft-1.064 sec., 330ft-2.865, 660ft-4.410/157.39 mph, 1,000ft-5.783.

Left Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.924/193.27, Now #1
Right Lane: Michael Ray Runs 11.158/67.14, Now #12

Ray's bike didn't shift on the 2-3 gear change and he is done early.

Savoie shows WAR power and makes a terrific pass into the new top spot.

Jerry Savoie's incremental times: 60ft-1.057 sec., 330ft-2.874, 660ft-4.414/158.78 mph, 1,000ft-5.765.

Left Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.931/191.84, Now #3
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.906/195.62, Now #1

Michael Ray is on the bump spot at 11.158.

The top spot changes again, as Arana is away first and pulls steadily ahead to the finish line.

Good pass for Smith though, into the #3 spot.

Angie Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.059 sec., 330ft-2.869, 660ft-4.409/158.45 mph, 1,000ft-5.763.
Hector Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.080 sec., 330ft-2.889, 660ft-4.418/159.97 mph, 1,000ft-5.758.

Left Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 7.171/184.19, Now #11
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.024/184.27, Now #10

Pollacheck gets out of the groove and to close to the center line. He gives it up early.

Johnson makes a full pass, but certainly not what he was looking for,

Steve Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.098 sec., 330ft-2.903, 660ft-4.437/159.10 mph, 1,000ft-5.810.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.842/196.59, Now #1
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.863/194.88, Now #2

Gert-Jen Laseur is on the bump spot at 7.298.

Okay! Both bikes leave hard and run hard into our first eighties of the weekend and the current top spots!

Hector Arana Jr's incremental times: 60ft-1.067 sec., 330ft-2.859, 660ft-4.375/161.46 mph, 1,000ft-5.703.
Matt Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.044 sec., 330ft-2.843, 660ft-4.373/159.72 mph, 1,000ft-5.712.

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.834/195.76, Now #1
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.859/195.99, Now #3

Number one and Number two in points come to the line for the last two down the track. Hines looks to have a lock on the 2014 Pro Stock Bike Championship.

Krawiec gets the most "little points" for the session and the final #1 position, with Hines taking one and the #3 position. Two great looking passes.

Eddie Krawiec's incremental times: 60ft-1.068 sec., 330ft-2.854, 660ft-4.368/161.92 mph, 1,000ft-5.694.
Andrew Hines' incremental times: 60ft-1.067 sec., 330ft-2.864, 660ft-4.385/160.94 mph, 1,000ft-5.717.

11:55 a.m. Elvira Karlsson is on the bump spot at 6.970.
