Three-time NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion Angelle Sampey has withdrawn from this
weekend's race due to an ankle injury. She sustained the injury Friday prior to the first
qualifying session while assisting her team with unloading the team transporter. She received
medical attention from NHRA emergency services officials, was deemed OK to race, and then made runs
in both of the day's qualifying sessions. After the second qualifying attempt she complained of
more pain in the ankle and NHRA medical services officials advised her to go to a local hospital
for evaluation and additional treatment if necessary. She returned to the track with a cast on her
ankle and was declared unfit to continue racing this weekend by the NHRA medical services team.
Since she made two qualifying attempts yesterday and was in the 21st position, she will be listed
officially as a DNQ for this event. Prior to this event, Sampey had never posted a DNQ in NHRA
Mello Yello Series competition. Her streak ends at 186 events.
