MADISON, Ill. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Modified at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Third annual AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals:

Weather conditions: air temperature 81 degrees, relative humidity 44 percent, barometer 29.63 inches, adjusted altitude 2,394 feet, track temperature 91 degrees.

Matusek is 1 - 0 against Smith in prior events. Matusek with the starting line advantage and then has a lot of shake and clicks it off. Smith launched hard and was straight down the groove for the win...he runs his quickest pass of the weekend. As Smith crossed the the finish line he apparently broke something as there was a lot of sparks and parts rolling out from under the car.

Knowles started to shake and pedaled it and got it to hook up and take the win. Knowles will give up lane choice to Fiscus in the next round. Whiteley shook hard right at the hit and when he pedaled it when he did the front end lifted up and then he got real loose. He did a great driving job to keep it in his lane...
