Slate Cummings
Slate Cummings wrapped up his 2013 season in familiar fashion; atop the NHRA's South Central Division. Cummings drove his Moser Engineering backed Cavalier to the Division 4 crown for a third consecutive season. This time around, Cummings had to sweat more than in past years, as he squeezed out the crown by a single point following a year-long battle with 3-time NHRA World Champion Kevin Helms. In addition to his Super Stock title, Cummings finished the 2013 season ranked 3rd in Division 4 Stock Eliminator points, behind good friend David Latino and division champion Jacob Pitt.

The Moser Engineering-backed Cummings Motorsports team is a six-car racing team that includes four championship drivers: Slate Cummings and his brother Britt, their father Larry Cummings, and "hired gun," Jody "Cool" Simoneaux. In addition to Moser Engineering, the team depends on quality components from the following manufacturers: FTI Torque Converters, Sunset Racecraft, B&M Performance, Weldon, Afco, Borla, Brodix Cylinder Heads, Mickey Thompson Tires, K&N, Holley Performance, Amalie Oil, Weld Wheels, Richmond Gear, Altronics, Harwood, Nitroplate, Edelbrock, Mr. Gasket, Jeff Taylor Racing Engines, Biondo Racing Products, Auto Meter, Phantom Race Cars, Simpson Safety Equipment, H&F Performance, Folk Race Cars, Moroso, Weld Wheels, Comp Cams, Renegade Race Fuels, Total Seal, Trend Performance, Diamond Pistons, and Milodon.

Larry Cummings
While the Cummings team capped their NHRA season at the NHRA LODRS event in Noble, OK in early October, they have been burning up the big dollar bracket trail in weeks since. Slate Cummings drove his Moser Engineering dragster to a gamblers race win at the annual C.A.R.S. Million Dollar Race in Montgomery, AL; highlighting a weekend in which he and Britt both routinely made the late round pay window. Just last weekend, the Cummings team made its way to State Capital Raceway in Baton Rouge, LA. There, Britt Cummings earned a victory in Friday's Gambler event, then drove to the semi-finals in three separate categories in Saturday event: Super Pro, Footbrake, and Quick 16! In Sunday's $5,000-to-win main even, Slate Cummings advanced to the quarterfinal round before bowing out of competition.

"We've enjoyed a great season," explained Slate Cummings. "Winning the division championship again was incredible; especially given how close the battle was with Kevin. We've really had a lot of fun bracket racing the last month or so - we tend to have fun no matter what, but it's certainly easier to have a good time when you're having success! I think we're all done for the season now. We'll go back and regroup as we start to turn our focus to 2014."

The Moser Engineering backed Cummings team tentatively plans to kick off their 2014 season with a handful of gulf coast bracket events prior to the NHRA Division 4 opener in Houston, TX.
