LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, Las Vegas Gambler Showdown Division 7 Finale listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Ashley Sanford Runs 5.577/264.23, Now #9; No Prior Run

12:59 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 26 percent, barometer 27.87 inches, adjusted altitude 3,719 feet, track temperature 96 degrees.

Sanford did not make an attempt yesterday. Tom Conway appears to be working with her crew, by the way.

Megan McKernan is on the bump spot at 5.531.

It looked like she rolled the beams and the 60-foot time was slow, then the car got up on the tires and made a nice-looking run. However, it was a few ticks too slow, despite running a career-best speed for Sanford.

Ashley Sanford's incremental times: 60ft-1.063 sec., 330ft-2.601, 660ft-3.759/216.62 mph, 1,000ft-4.735.

Left Lane: Larry Miersch Runs 5.750/233.60, Now #11; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Eugene Tumbarello Runs 5.731/251.67, Now #10; No Prior Run

either of these two made a run yesterday, Tumbarello with his chutes popping out in the waterbox.

Both got down the track today, no visible problems, but too slow to make this very quick field.

Left Lane: Johnny Ahten Runs 5.323/262.39, Now #2; Best prior run: 17.459/28.29, Was #18
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.467/258.86, Now #8; No Prior Run

Shields also did not make a run yesterday, shutting it off after the burnout. Ahten made a run, but the car had immediate tire smoke.

Both got down the track today, Ahten all the way up to second place, while Shields ended up on the bump spot. That bumped McKernan and Buddy Domingue from the field.

Johnny Ahten's incremental times: 60ft-0.938 sec., 330ft-2.414, 660ft-3.534/223.43 mph, 1,000ft-4.486.
Duane Shields' incremental times: 60ft-0.984 sec., 330ft-2.490, 660ft-3.635/217.70 mph, 1,000ft-4.613.

Right Lane: Jeff Ashwell Runs 10.951/76.99, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.150/165.66, Was #16

Ashwell was on a pretty good pass yesterday, but lost power about 1,000 feet down the track.

This time, he hazed the tires on the launch, then lost traction completely and lifted. He will need a career-best run to make this field.

Right Lane: Megan McKernan Runs 16.372/31.71, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.531/266.42, Was #10

McKernan was on the bump spot after the first qualifying session, got bumped out earlier in this session. Bateman was slowed by tire smoke yesterday.

McKernan was up in smoke immediately. Bateman made a nice run to bump Shields from the field. He tied Dan Mercier's ET, with a better speed. so he goes in sixth and Mercier drops to seventh. Don St. Arnaud is on the bump spot at 5.463.

Garrett Bateman's incremental times: 60ft-0.950 sec., 330ft-2.471, 660ft-3.629/216.65 mph, 1,000ft-4.600.

Left Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.353/268.49, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.982/145.74, Was #18
Right Lane: Buddy Domingue Runs 14.451/78.52, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.527/252.90, Was #10

Demke smoked the tires early in the run yesterday. Domingue was bumped earlier in this session.

Domingue was up in smoke immediately. Demke made a good run to bump into the field, moving Ray Martin down a notch. That bumped Don St. Arnaud from the field and Dan Mercier is now on the bump spot at 5.436.

Chris Demke's incremental times: 60ft-0.926 sec., 330ft-2.395, 660ft-3.541/215.79 mph, 1,000ft-4.519.

Left Lane: William Litton Runs 5.970/218.72, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.882/220.94, Was #17
Right Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 5.489/257.83, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.436/256.21, Was #8

Mercier made a full pass, failed to improve. Litton had a dead cylinder early in the run and dropped more cylinders on the top end.

Left Lane: Michael Manners Runs 5.521/258.86, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.804/241.58, Was #16
Right Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 5.369/264.29, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.413/265.17, Was #6

Both drivers stepped up here, Cowie with a flash from the engine area in the lights. Cowie moved up one spot, still will not have lane choice in round one.

Shawn Cowie's incremental times: 60ft-0.951 sec., 330ft-2.382, 660ft-3.534/213.81 mph, 1,000ft-4.524.

Left Lane: Don St. Arnaud Runs 5.519/256.21, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.463/264.39, Was #9
Right Lane: Ray Martin Runs 5.333/268.54, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.386/267.32, Was #6

Arnaud was the last car in line with a shot at bumping Mercier from the field, but he failed to improve and will have one more chance to get back into the field. Martin made a very nice run to move up to the top half of the field.

Two stout runs, Severance replacing Whiteley as the #1 qualifier despite Whiteley's improved performance today.

Jim Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.927 sec., 330ft-2.360, 660ft-3.491/218.37 mph, 1,000ft-4.464.
