MADISON, Ill. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Modified at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Second annual AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals:

Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 49 percent, barometer 29.51 inches, adjusted altitude 2,913 feet, track temperature 112 degrees.

Janis and Coughlin have each won 3 times against the other in prior events. Janis is third in the point standings and Coughlin is right behind him in fourth. Coughlin is out of the gate first and never trailed as Janis had severe tire shake right at the hit, he pedaled it a couple times, but couldn't get it to settle down. coughlin around half track got real loose and he did a great job keeping it in his lane and off the wall. Coughlin gets the win.

This is the first time Fiscus and King have faced each other in eliminations. Fiscus is out of the gate first and never trailed win by 0.0426 seconds (approximately 15 feet).

Smith launched hard and then runs his quickest pass and the of the weekend and the quickest pass of eliminations so far for the win. Martin is in the show as an alternate for Hance who couldn't make the call. Martin is 1 - 0 against Rowe in prior events. Martin with a big starting line advantage and the power to hold on for the hole shot win. Harold Martin's MOV: 0.0657 seconds (approximately 24 feet). Martin will give up lane choice to Rickie Smith in the next round.

Muenks makes the show in his NHRA debut and they leave together, but then starts to shake and he clicks it off. Castellana launched hard and was straight down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend and the quickest pass of the first round of elimination for the win. Mike Castellana's incremental times: 60ft-0.979 sec., 330ft-2.610, 660ft-3.887/194.41 mph, 1,000ft-4.973. Castellana will have lane choice over Stevenson in the next round.

Robert Patrick Jr.'s MOV: 0.0043 seconds (approximately 19 inches). Patrick Jr will have lane choice over Fiscus in the next round.

Flamholc will not make the call after that horrific crash yesterday and Matusek is in as the alternate. Laurita launched hard and then runs the quickest pass of the event for the win and lane choice over Coughlin in the next round. Jim Laurita's incremental times: 60ft-0.974 sec., 330ft-2.579, 660ft-3.835/197.45 mph, 1,000ft-4.908. Matusek broke when the light turned green.
