Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Final Session

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 28th annual AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Shayne Lawson Runs 5.532/260.91, Now #14; Best prior run: 19.747/51.56, Was #18

2:21 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 35 percent, barometer 29.33 inches, adjusted altitude 2,786 feet, track temperature 116 degrees.

Lawson makes a clean pass and gets in the show in the 14th spot for now.


Left Lane: Michael Manners Runs 5.485/261.52, Now #15; Best prior run: 12.474/78.32, Was #18
Right Lane: Brandon Pierce Runs 5.477/264.13, Now #13; Best prior run: 26.796/30.16, Was #19

Both Manners and Pierce went up in smoke at the hit of the throttle on their first attempts.

Manners drifted to the right all the way through the run but was able to keep it off the centerline and make a decent pass. Pierce goes right down the groove with a decent pass to get in the field for now.


Left Lane: Lee Callaway Runs 5.353/268.54, Now #5; Best prior run: 8.016/104.20, Was #18
Right Lane: Aaron Tatum Runs 5.566/266.42, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.480/268.71, Was #14

Callaway makes an impressive pass and moves all the way to the fifth spot. Tatum slows from his earlier attempt and drops a spot to 15th.

Left Lane: Karl Brounkowski Runs 5.883/246.89, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.884/234.57, Was #18
Right Lane: David Brounkowski Runs 7.183/123.60, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.454/252.00, Was #12

David Brounkowski drifted toward the centerline, gets to half track and has to back off the throttle. Karl equalled his first qualifying attempt and it isn't enough to get in the show.

Left Lane: Buddy Domingue Runs 5.433/260.26, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.465/264.39, Was #13
Right Lane: James Thompson Runs 5.582/259.46, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.416/268.81, Was #11

Thompson had a hole out on the left side all the way through the run. Domingue made a clean pass and moves up a spot to 12th for now.

Left Lane: Forrest Fair Runs 5.557/249.12, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.393/263.10, Was #8
Right Lane: Brandon Booher Runs 5.320/271.57, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.411/268.22, Was #10

Booher equals his career best and moves up to the third spot. Fair slows from his earlier attempt and drops a spot to ninth.

Left Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.323/272.45, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.374/268.65, Was #7
Right Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.490/253.66, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.409/257.48, Was #10

Severance makes his quickest pass of the year and moves up to the fourth spot. Dreher makes a clean pass but slows from his earlier attempt.

Left Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.411/264.91, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.352/267.91, Was #6
Right Lane: Monroe Guest Runs 5.492/253.52, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.379/253.28, Was #8

Guest and Reichert both make decent passes but neither can improve.

Left Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 5.246/274.50, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.316/267.11, Was #2
Right Lane: Ray Martin Runs 5.471/264.23, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.336/268.81, Was #5

Whiteley makes an impressive pass for the conditions and goes around Taliaferro to the top spot. Martin makes a clean pass but slows from his earlier attempt.

Left Lane: Mark Taliaferro Runs 8.730/95.67, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.287/271.30, Was #2

Taliaferro was just bumped off the pole by Whiteley. He gets abouts about 100 feet out, starts shaking the tires hard and has to back off the throttle.
