Three Win for Home State of New Jersey

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - John Kakalecik, Shawn Fricke and John Maggiulli all won for their home state of New Jersey at this weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, Englishtown, N.J.

Kakalecik, Whitehouse Stati, N.J., was better on both ends of the track in defeating Tom Boucher, Byfield, Mass., in his '70 Barracuda running 9.283 seconds at 138.78 mph to Boucher's 9.651, 137.17. Fricke, Flemington, N.J., beat out Tom Hunter, York, Pa., in Super Comp and Maggiulli, East Hanover, N.J., won over Casey Grubb, Milford, N.H., in Super Street. Fricke got the early lead on a holeshot forcing Hunter to run too quick at 8.896 on the 8.90 index as was the case in Super Street when Grubb broke out handing the win to Maggiulli.

In Comp Eliminator it was Kyle Cultrera, Eliot, Maine, taking his second win of the year in his '32 roadster in 9.012 seconds over the quicker Chip Ippolito. Cultrera also won back in June at Lebanon Valley Dragway.

Michael Daniele, Wantagh, N.Y., and Scott Luken, Perry Hall, Md., won in the Magnaflux Top Dragster and Top Sportsman presented by Select Performance respectively. Daniele had a string of holeshots saving his best for last with a .002 second start against Dennis Gaboriault paired with a run of 6.961 at 194.77 for the win. Luken had a great start as well (.005) running 6.860 at 197.25 to knock out Greg Kelly, Hainesport, N.J.

Other racers visiting the winner's circle this weekend were Katie Sepanek, Moosic, Pa., in her '72 Chevelle over Glen Hartzler in Stock; Ray Sawyer, Acton, Mass., won a close one against Mac Starks in Super Gas; and Brian Pretzel, Belding, Mich., ran down Daniel Moyer in Pro Stock Sled.

The event was the final event in the NHRA Northeast Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series but racers can still compete at NHRA national events and Lucas Oil Series events outside their division in hopes of scoring additional points toward divisional and national championships.

Katie Sepanek, Moosic, Pa., '72 Chevelle, I/SA, 11.462, 109.54 def. Glen Hartzler, Whitehouse Station, N.J., '72 Barracuda, H/SA, 11.472, 114.47.

Shawn Fricke, Flemington, N.J., dragster, 8.912, 161.09 def. Tom Hunter, York, Pa., dragster, 8.896, 177.32.

Ray Sawyer, Acton, Mass., '02 Camaro, 9.928, 170.56 def. Mac Starks Jr, Springfield, Mass., '67 Camaro, 9.898, 158.71.

John Maggiulli Sr., E. Hanover, N.J., '69 Camaro, 10.914, 149.12 def. Casey Grubb, Milford, N.H., '68 Camaro, 10.868, 136.28.

Scott Luken, Perry Hall, Md., dragster, 6.860, 197.25 def. Greg Kelley, Hainesport, N.J., dragster, foul.

Michael Daniele Jr., Wantagh, N.Y., '05 Cavalier, 6.961, 194.77 def. Dennis Gaboriault, Millbury, Mass., '10 Shelby, 6.766, 206.01.

Brian Pretzel, Belding, Mich., '11 Ski Doo, 8.316, 153.54 def. Daniel Meyer, Raymond, Maine, '99 Ski Doo, 8.375, 152.64.
