KENT, Wash. -- Cacklefest

The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series is ready to bring its thundering excitement to the Northwest's premier drag strip, Pacific Raceways, Aug. 2-4. The 26th annual O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Northwest Nationals presented by Super Start Batteries is the final race in the NHRA's Western Swing - a grueling stretch of three races in three consecutive weekends that starts in Denver, visits Sonoma, Calif. and finishes in Seattle.

The O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Northwest Nationals, which will be televised on ESPN2HD, is the 16th stop in the 24-events of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series in 2013 and one of the most popular in the series for its scenic backdrops and excellent side-by-side racing that will be showcased in three NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series categories: Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock.

Last year, history was made as Courtney Force (Funny Car), Erica Enders (Pro Stock) and Megan Ellingson (Super Street) earned coveted Wally trophies - the first time that three women won at the same national event. Steve Torrence (Top Fuel) also celebrated in the winner's circle last season, and is ready to defend his title. All drivers will be focused on locking up their positions for the Countdown to the Championship, NHRA's playoffs.

Enders and Force celebrate win last year.
Points leader Shawn Langdon won his fourth event this last weekend in Sonoma in his Al-Anabi dragster continues to be the frontrunner for the championship in the 8,000-horsepower category. Spencer Massey has moved into second place after winning in Denver and making a semifinal appearance in Sonoma. Other Top Fuel contenders include seven-time Top Fuel world champ Tony Schumacher, who has claimed four wins at Pacific Raceways, Doug Kalitta, Khalid alBalooshi, Morgan Lucas, Clay Millican as well as former event champs Antron Brown and Brandon Bernstein.

In Funny Car, racers will continue their battle for the top points position, currently held by three-time season winner Matt Hagan, but multiple drivers - including seven-time event winner John Force, Johnny Gray, Ron Capps and Cruz Pedregon - have also excelled this season.

Pro Stock continues to be an ultra-competitive category featuring points leader Mike Edwards, who has four victories this season, and 2012 Pro Stock world champion Allen Johnson, who recently picked up his fourth win of the season in Denver as well as Jeg Coughlin runner-up in Sonoma and Shane Gray, who is poised to win his first race of the season, are also top contenders, along with Vincent Nobile, hot off his win last weekend in Sonoma, and the Summit Racing Equipment team of Jason Line and Greg Anderson.

Courtney Force and Alex DeJoria
The race wouldn't be complete without NHRA's girl power on display including Funny Car rivals Alex DeJoria and Courtney Force and Top Fuel rookie Brittany Force. With this much girl power, it's an event that will be guaranteed to provide drama, thrills and perhaps even more history.

The race will feature more than just drag racing. The fun-filled weekend will offer several meet-and-greets and autograph sessions, a stocked-heavy Manufacturer's Midway and the always-popular Cacklefest on Sunday during pre-race ceremonies.

The NHRA Car Corral will feature vintage street hot rods and 10 nostalgia dragsters that will be participating in Sunday morning's Cacklefest and parade during pre-race ceremonies.

Fans will also want to take advantage of the popular NHRA Northwest Legends Track Walk featuring local legends Jerry Ruth, Herman Petersen, Hank Johnson, Gordie Bonin, Wayne King, Hugh Tucker, Jerry King, Jim Green and Dick Kalivoda. This popular event, which is free to all Sunday ticket holders, gives fans the opportunity to walk down the legendary drag strip alongside some of the NHRA's biggest stars and legends of the sport.

The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series also will thrill the crowds during the weekend with intense competition on the track.

When the NHRA visits the scenic state of Washington, families can take advantage of a special ticket promotion: Children 12 and younger will receive free general admission with a paid adult all weekend.

As always, every ticket purchased for the NHRA Northwest Nationals is a pit pass, which offers an extraordinary look behind the scenes in the world of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Fans can meet drivers, get autographs and watch as the race crews service the high-horsepower machines between rounds.

Mello Yello Series qualifying begins on Friday, Aug. 2 with the first session at 2:45 p.m., followed by another session at 5:30 p.m. The final two qualifying sessions will take place Saturday, Aug. 3, at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Final eliminations are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4.
