JOLIET, Ill. -- Jim Yates, driver of the Splitfire/Peak Pontiac Grand Am in the Pro Stock category, was in stable condition and transported to the Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet for evaluation. Yates, 49, was involved in an incident during the first round of qualifying at the top end of the race track. Yates was bumped by an NHRA safety vehicle, which was en route to aiding Bruce Allen.
