9:56 p.m. Stemper has never won a Minuteman trophy and had a good shot at joining John Pluchino as a first-time winner. However, McKinney has been here before and was quicker in the semifinals, but only by a thousandth of a second.

Stemper grabbed a two hundredths edge at the green, then McKinney had a big POP from the engine at half track to end his pursuit.

Two first-time winners so far and we are assured of at least one more, in Pro Nitrous.
