CHANDLER, Ariz. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 27th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.281/185.69, Now #1
Right Lane: Redell Harris No Time, Now #2
1:54 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 89 degrees, relative humidity 24 percent, barometer 28.56 inches, adjusted altitude 3,805 feet, track temperature 129 degrees.
It's HOT!
Harris breaks in the burn out and is pushed
away.
Camarena makes a clean pass, but nothing to write home about.
Left Lane: Wesley Wells Runs 7.304/181.74, Now #3
Right Lane: James Surber Runs 7.229/185.28, Now #1
Straight passes, but its tough out there!
Left Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 8.656/112.20, Now #5
Right Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.296/179.09, Now #3
Sullivan's bike is a little slow off the line and then drifts steadily towards the center line. She has to click it early.
Left Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.290/184.98, Now #3
Right Lane: Bailey Whitaker Runs 18.357/34.29, Now #7
Whitaker's bike is lazy off the line and he sits up early. DeSantis runs close to the prior runs.
Left Lane: Justin Finley Runs 7.119/188.60, Now #1
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.171/187.44, Now #2
Much better! Two strong passes for the conditions.

Mike Berry's incremental times: 60ft-1.099 sec., 330ft-2.980, 660ft-4.571/153.18 mph, 1,000ft-5.969.

The pace is picking up. Nice clean pass.
Shawn Gann's incremental times: 60ft-1.092 sec., 330ft-2.938, 660ft-4.522/153.70 mph, 1,000ft-5.916.
Left Lane: Angie Smith Runs 7.078/188.54, Now #1
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.223/188.91, Now #5
Smith's bike jumps out well ahead of a struggling Johnson and she move the number one spot again.

Bailey Whitaker is on the bump spot at 18.357.
Arana hangs the front wheel for a long way down the track and is the first Pro Stock Bike into the sixes at Phoenix. Clean pass for Underdahl into the new #5 spot.
Jim Underdahl's incremental times: 60ft-1.127 sec., 330ft-2.998, 660ft-4.578/154.62 mph, 1,000ft-5.965.
Hector Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.066 sec., 330ft-2.889, 660ft-4.448/156.37 mph, 1,000ft-5.816.
Left Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 7.169/187.23, Now #6
Right Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 8.079/113.03, Now #14
Savoie has a great leave and then slows at mid-track.
Tonglet gets into the top half of the field for now.
Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.068/192.49, Now #3
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.015/190.97, Now #2
Matt Guidera is on the bump spot at 7.296.
Arana keeps his six second pass, as both bikes slide right in behind him on strong passes.

Smith runs a seven oh for the new #3 spot.

Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.988/193.57, Now #2
Steve Johnson is on the bump spot at 7.223.
It's an Arana sandwich at the top of the ladder with Krawiec as the meat.
Krawiec was better on the low end, but Arana took over before mid-track and stayed in front for the final number one spot in round one.
