BRAINERD, Minn. - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 29th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 5.919/176.24, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.870/189.07, Was #10
Right Lane: Mike Austin Runs 5.448/258.37, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.546/118.66, Was #11
Palmer is off the throttle early. Austin with a nice pass to make a move in the right direction...Mike Austin's incremental times: 60ft-0.930 sec., 330ft-2.396, 660ft-3.571/209.75 mph, 1,000ft-4.584.
Left Lane: Darren Nicholson Runs 5.676/200.83, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.513/253.56, Was #6
Right Lane: Chase Copeland Runs 5.475/258.22, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.693/248.98, Was #10
Copeland with a nice pass to move up in the ladder. Chase Copeland's incremental times: 60ft-0.958 sec., 330ft-2.489, 660ft-3.643/217.07 mph, 1,000ft-4.622. No help here for Nicholson.
Left Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.368/262.23, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.462/262.54, Was #5
Right Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.574/253.95, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.637/256.75, Was #10
Reichert launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number two spot. Bill Reichert's incremental times: 60ft-0.951 sec., 330ft-2.439, 660ft-3.562/222.88 mph, 1,000ft-4.525. Meyer improves, but will stay in the number ten spot. Randy Meyer's incremental times: 60ft-0.994 sec., 330ft-2.561, 660ft-3.730/215.93 mph, 1,000ft-4.712.
Left Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.391/265.22, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.455/263.92, Was #5
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.403/264.80, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.523/256.02, Was #8
This was a good side-by-side drag race...Marty Thacker's incremental times: 60ft-0.935 sec., 330ft-2.394, 660ft-3.552/213.54 mph, 1,000ft-4.546.
Duane Shields' incremental times: 60ft-0.924 sec., 330ft-2.441, 660ft-3.595/218.16 mph, 1,000ft-4.565.
Left Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 8.128/95.25, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.384/262.49, Was #3
Right Lane: Chris Demke Runs 7.248/125.67, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.364/267.91, Was #1
Cowie launched with the front end in the air and finally had to lift around 200 feet. Demke started to shake and clicked it off.
