Pro Modified Qualifying Notes, Session #2

NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Tony Pontieri Runs 6.062/181.18, Now #6; No Prior Run

Pontieri launched hard and was on a real good looking pass until right in the lights when the car took a hard right turn. The car smashed into the right wall hard and then there was a quick burst of flames. The car slid on it side and came to a rest on it it's side with the driver side on the track. The word from the top end is Pontieri is out of the car and being checked out by the NHRA medical personnel.

Left Lane: Raymond Commisso Runs 5.910/248.20, Now #1; Best prior run: 20.760/33.94, Was #23
Right Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 10.387/104.54, Now #21; Best prior run: 17.477/36.89, Was #22

Commisso with a great looking pass to go to the number one spot. Raymond Commisso's incremental times: 60ft-0.976 sec., 330ft-2.617, 660ft-3.911/193.29 mph, 1,000ft-5.000. rowe shook and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Jay Payne Runs 9.151/98.90, Now #19; Best prior run: 12.523/82.70, Was #23
Right Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 9.505/91.49, Now #22; Best prior run: 11.629/70.45, Was #22

Payne got real loose right off the starting line and clicked it off by 300 feet. Castellana shook and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Von Smith Runs 5.951/245.05, Now #2; Best prior run: 9.286/84.98, Was #20
Right Lane: Chip King Runs 6.466/165.09, Now #13; Best prior run: 9.337/94.89, Was #21

smith launched with front end in the air and makes a great pass to go to the number two spot. Von Smith's incremental times: 60ft-0.981 sec., 330ft-2.628, 660ft-3.930/191.59 mph, 1,000ft-5.030. King with a lot of engine smoke on the top end, but word from the top end is the track is clean.

Left Lane: Chuck Cheeseman Runs 6.116/235.19, Now #13; Best prior run: 9.093/90.98, Was #20
Right Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 5.940/245.40, Now #2; Best prior run: 8.649/117.20, Was #19

Cheeseman was straight down the groove with his career best pass to get in the show. Chuck Cheeseman's incremental times: 60ft-1.023 sec., 330ft-2.681, 660ft-4.010/185.46 mph, 1,000ft-5.155. Troxel with a great pass to go to the number two spot. Melanie Troxel's incremental times: 60ft-0.984 sec., 330ft-2.642, 660ft-3.934/193.85 mph, 1,000ft-5.027.

Left Lane: Roger Burgess No Time, Now #20; Best prior run: 8.108/145.89, Was #20
Right Lane: Dennis Radford No Time, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.718/112.82, Was #18

Burgess got loose and out of the groove and then hit the left wall and crossed over into the right lane. He then hit the right wall in front of Radford and Radford did a great job of avoiding Burgess. Burgess' car barrel roll more than a couple times and then came to a rest on all four. He is out of the car and he is going to be checked out by the NHRA medical staff. Burgess tripped Radford's E.T. so neither will get times on this run.

Left Lane: Brad Personett Runs 6.020/250.55, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.808/138.00, Was #19
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.046/241.50, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.558/130.99, Was #17

a couple good looking passes here and both get into the top half of the show. Brad Personett's incremental times: 60ft-1.012 sec., 330ft-2.741, 660ft-4.038/193.85 mph, 1,000ft-5.119.
Mike Janis' incremental times: 60ft-0.982 sec., 330ft-2.676, 660ft-4.001/188.78 mph, 1,000ft-5.114.

Left Lane: Mike Knowles Runs 5.990/242.54, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.095/238.81, Was #13
Right Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 5.963/239.02, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.842/146.83, Was #19

Hoover with a great pass to go to the number five spot. Ed Hoover's incremental times: 60ft-0.975 sec., 330ft-2.602, 660ft-3.910/189.26 mph, 1,000ft-5.024. Knowles was right there with Hoover to go to the number six spot. Mike Knowles' incremental times: 60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.644, 660ft-3.953/190.40 mph, 1,000ft-5.061.

Left Lane: Joe Baker Runs 5.976/239.48, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.048/237.96, Was #12
Right Lane: Burton Auxier Runs 5.989/237.30, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.132/203.40, Was #18

Baker was straight down the groove with a nice pass to go to the number six spot. Joe Baker's incremental times: 60ft-0.977 sec., 330ft-2.605, 660ft-3.915/188.78 mph, 1,000ft-5.035. Auxier goes to the number seven spot...Burton Auxier's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.640, 660ft-3.936/190.70 mph, 1,000ft-5.045.

Left Lane: Scott Ray Runs 5.989/238.30, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.046/237.34, Was #13
Right Lane: Rick Stivers Runs 6.454/168.30, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.096/240.25, Was #16

Stivers got real loose around 1000 feet and clicked it off. Ray gets into the top half of the show...Scott Ray's incremental times: 60ft-0.985 sec., 330ft-2.608, 660ft-3.920/188.02 mph, 1,000ft-5.044.

Left Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 8.022/114.18, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.027/235.10, Was #12
Right Lane: Kenny Lang Runs 8.473/108.62, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.073/237.75, Was #15

Smith was real loose right off the starting line and clicked it off. Lang started to lose traction and he clicked it off.

Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 7.645/118.45, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.018/235.43, Was #10

Coughlin got real loose and clicked it off by 330 feet.
