JOLIET, Ill. -- Special awards from the United Association Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by Miller Welders.

K&N Filters Horsepower Challenge award ($3,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Pro Stock) - Mike Edwards, Broken Arrow, Okla., Penhall/Interstate Batteries Pontiac GXP, 6.629, seconds, 207.69 mph.

Best Engineered Vehicle - Fred Hagan Racing Top Alcohol Funny Car entry. Driver: Fred Hagen, Jr., Des Plaines, Ill.

NHRA Best Appearing Car - Shockley Racing Super Comp entry. Driver: Brian Shocckley, Lebanon, Ind.

NHRA Best Appearing Crew - Keith Raftery Racing Top Sportsman entry. Driver: Keith Raftery, Lake Charles, La.

Perfectly Strange Awards:
Super Stock: Mike Lund, Bettendorf, Ia.
Stock Eliminator: Anatol Denysenko, Lyons, Ill.
Super Comp: Michael Dalrymple, Sunnyside, Wa.
Super Gas: Jason Kenny, Kingston, Ontario

Full Throttle Hard-Working Crew Award ($3,000 each to Top Fuel and Funny Car, $1,500 to Pro Stock and $750 to Pro Stock Motorcycle for the crews that are recognized as the hardest working of the event):
Top Fuel: Steve Torrence makes it to the semis by beating Cory McClenathan in round two and recorded his fourth round win of the season in the process.
Funny Car: In a new Don Schumacher Racing constructed Funny Car chassis, Beckman raced his way to the semifinals.
Pro Stock: Shane Gray with a brand new team gets out of the first round and raced his way to the semis.
Pro Stock Motorcycle: Angie Smith wins on a holeshot in round one and records her first rond win of the season. With the win she advanced to the semifinals.
