Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 13th annual United Association Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by Miller Welders listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 4.305/245.67, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Troy Buff Runs 3.909/291.95, Now #7; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 65 percent, barometer 29.05 inches, adjusted altitude 3,060 feet, track temperature 92 degrees.

Buff is making his first pass this weekend. Buff dropped a cylinder or two right off the starting line, but still gets into the top half of the show. Troy Buff's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.179, 660ft-3.105/270.00 mph. Novelli is mixing up cylinders early and then had quick flash of flames, but the track is clean.


Left Lane: Pat Dakin No Time, Now #19; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 3.843/314.17, Now #4; No Prior Run

Dakin did the burnout and then it keep on going. Bernstein with a real nice pass to go to the number four spot. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.173, 660ft-3.076/279.27 mph.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.901/304.87, Now #9; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.857/312.71, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.549/235.43, Was #15

McMillen was on a good pass until right in the lights when he had a little wiggle. Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.845 sec., 330ft-2.196, 660ft-3.118/273.94 mph. Kalitta was straight down the groove to move into the top half of the show. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.856 sec., 330ft-2.177, 660ft-3.091/277.03 mph.

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 6.870/85.03, Now #17; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 5.519/128.15, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.107/280.14, Was #14

Grubnic starts to smoke the tires first and he won't get in the show. Haddock is up in smoke around 300 feet and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 5.415/114.59, Now #17; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.023/282.13, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.990/299.26, Was #12

Brown banged the blower and his chute automatically deployed. Brown will not get into the show and is down to one last pass to get in. Lucas started dropping cylinders on the top end and slowed from his time yesterday.

Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 9.018/78.42, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.932/292.65, Was #11

Vandergriff is up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 5.140/134.02, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.871/312.93, Was #6
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 4.045/288.89, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.884/313.95, Was #8

Langdon started to haze the tires and then dropped some cylinders and clicked it off. Torrence is straight down the groove, but slows from his time yesterday.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.979/142.76, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.841/317.49, Was #3
Right Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 7.523/86.64, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.874/311.27, Was #7

Zizzo started to lose traction early and clicked it off and then Schumacher began to haze the tires around half track...

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.842/314.97, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.814/317.42, Was #1
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 5.236/129.44, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.827/320.81, Was #2

McClenathan started to haze the tires early and clicked it off. Dixon launched hard and keep it hooked up and ran the quickest pass of the round. Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.845 sec., 330ft-2.166, 660ft-3.078/279.44 mph.
