Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Larry Sullivan

JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 13th annual United Association Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by Miller Welders listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.175/186.51, Now #1
Right Lane: Gary Moreno Runs 7.285/182.28, Now #2

8:47 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 73 percent, barometer 29.01 inches, adjusted altitude 3,302 feet, track temperature 79 degrees.

There is a huge storm cell passing close to the track, but it looks like this one will miss us. Track drying took longer than expected because it's humid and the shutdown area refused to dry out. Racing stopped at 1 p.m. for a car into the net in TAFC qualifying, so it's been quiet here for almost eight hours.

Clean, full passes to open the session - only time will tell how good those times are, but as humid as it is, don't look for any record runs.

Left Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.142/183.67, Now #2
Right Lane: Wesley Wells Runs 7.132/186.33, Now #1

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.120/184.57, Now #1
Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 7.245/182.77, Now #5

Smith is supposed to be on a new motorcycle this weekend, looking for improved performance.

That run puts her next-to-last so far. Meanwhile, Berry is the best so far.

Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 7.084/189.47, Now #1
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 8.452/109.66, Now #8

Gann had good early numbers, but the bike did not shift into a higher gear and he had to shut it off. Meanwhile, IUnderdahl grabbed the top spot for now...probably won't last long, however.

Left Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 7.138/189.28, Now #5
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.011/192.77, Now #1

"Stevie J" picked up a new sponsor this week. He celebrates by making the best run so far - and a very good one for the conditions.

Left Lane: David Hope Runs 6.971/188.31, Now #1
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 10.721/78.75, Now #12

Stoffer's bike headed for the centerline and she had to shut it off. Nice pass by Hope and he is now #1. David Hope's incremental times: 60ft-1.064 sec., 330ft-2.877, 660ft-4.425/157.41 mph, 1,000ft-5.789.

Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 6.960/190.27, Now #1
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.011/192.66, Now #4

Seven pairs, seven #1 qualifiers...now it's Treble. Craig Treble's incremental times: 60ft-1.068 sec., 330ft-2.885, 660ft-4.429/157.91 mph, 1,000ft-5.787.

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.045/190.22, Now #6
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.023/188.75, Now #5

The two Team Harley motorcycle didn't like the conditions and Treble stays atop the list.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.027/189.66, Now #7
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.989/189.23, Now #3

Last pair and everyone expected two more sixes from thses two. Arana made a good run, but Treble stays #1 at 6.960 and L.E. Tonglet is on the twelve-bike bump spot at 7.138.

Hector Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.058 sec., 330ft-2.881, 660ft-4.433/156.37 mph, 1,000ft-5.806.
