JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 13th annual United Association Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by Miller Welders listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed this round, amount over/under index this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time, speed & over/under Index, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Fred Allen Runs 8.571/152.40/-0.519, Now #17; C/SR Index: 9.09, Prior Best: 9.551/116.57/0.461, Was #31
Right Lane: Bill Riemenapp Runs 8.802/145.14/-0.288, Now #29; C/SR Index: 9.09, Prior Best: 8.786/149.15/-0.304, Was #28

3:42 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 45 percent, barometer 29.13 inches, adjusted altitude 2,875 feet, track temperature 114 degrees.

Jim Greenheck is on the bump spot at 0.897 over the index.

The second session opens well ahead of schedule, with a pair of C/Street Roadsters. No help for Riemenapp, but solid run for Allen.

Two good runs here, both drivers improving slightly.

Left Lane: Matt Harris Runs 7.738/175.05/-0.622, Now #3; E/A Index: 8.36, Prior Best: 7.750/175.09/-0.610, Was #3

Harris improved slightly, stays third. No help for Graves.

No improvement by Warren, but a very nice run. Caro improved slightly, moved up one spot.

Kelly shut off in the water in the first session and Greenheck was way off the race pace.

Kelly had problems before going 100 feet. Greenheck got in a full pass this time and moved off the bump spot. Now Jim Winje is on the bump spot at 0.419 over the index.

Two nice runs, both drivers already in the top half and moving up the ladder.

Chamness did not make it out of the water in the first session and slowed almost immediately this time around. Jenkins labored down the track, again well off the pace.

Winje got under his index to move one spot off the bump. Robb made a very nice run to move up a couple spots. Now Justin Jenkins is on the bump spot at -0.067.

Left Lane: Rick Brown Runs 8.362/161.79/-0.438, Now #22; B/TA Index: 8.80, Prior Best: 8.310/161.54/-0.490, Was #22

No help for Brown. Ross with a nice run to move up a few spots.

Very strong effort by Bailey to move into the -0.6 group and take over the fourth spot. Vincent imrpoved slightly, moved up one spot.

Ellis' altered made a very big wiggle about 100 feet out and he had to get out of the throttle briefly. Nice pass by Hickey to move into the top half of the field.

Panagiotaros was shut off after the burnout in the first session. He made a good run here to move into the field in the top half. Nice run by Arnold, improving enough to move up a couple spots. Now Jim Winje is back on the bump spot, this time at -0.167.

Barone makes it look easy, extending his hold on the top spot, while Browell also made a good run, moving into the middle of the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Greg Kamplain Runs 7.036/188.02/-0.524, Now #17; C/DA Index: 7.56, Prior Best: 7.016/188.86/-0.544, Was #17
Right Lane: David Rampy Runs 7.260/174.68/-0.600, Now #5; A/EA Index: 7.86, Prior Best: 7.278/168.45/-0.582, Was #8

Kamplain failed to improve, but Rampy improved enough to move up a few spots near the top of the list.

Left Lane: Frank Aragona Jr. Runs 8.264/139.41/-0.526, Now #2; F/ED Index: 8.79, Prior Best: 8.161/160.67/-0.629, Was #2
Right Lane: Doug Lambeck Runs 8.593/142.21/-0.377, Now #27; D/SMA Index: 8.97, Prior Best: 8.527/157.76/-0.443, Was #27

Aragona lifted early and it appears that lambeck did the same, his speed down 15 mph.

Right Lane: Bruno Massel Runs 7.382/171.01/-0.408, Now #28; DD/AT Index: 7.79, Prior Best: 15.864/51.09/8.074, Was #35

Massel appeared to have turbocharger problems on his first attempt. This one was better, at least good enough to get him into the field, but it's still well below his usual performance level.

Right Lane: Steve Szupka Runs 8.276/155.78/-0.544, Now #14; G/EA Index: 8.82, Prior Best: 8.261/155.58/-0.559, Was #14

Szupka ran almost the same speed as on his first run today, did not improve.
