CONCORD, N.C. -- Competing at zMAX Dragway in this weekend's NHRA Carolinas Nationals, Doug Herbert qualified the tiwi dragster in the fifth position. Racing for only the second time this season, the veteran drier clocked an impressive 3.852 pass during the first round of qualifying on Friday.

"It's the first time we've ran the car in months and we were number one qualifier until late in the second session," said Herbert. "We ended up fifth and got down the track three out of four times so we're pretty happy."

"We're excited to have tiwi on the car and have Todd Follmer and Melissa Rosato out at the track with us this weekend," Herbert added. "We're introducing tiwi to the NHRA fans and the response has been great."

In the first round of eliminations Sunday Herbert will face No. 12 qualifier Pat Dakin.

ESPN2 will televise qualifying coverage at 11:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, Sept. 19. NHRA Race Day, a 30-minute pre-race show, will air Sunday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. (ET). Eliminations from the NHRA Carolinas Nationals will be broadcast by ESPN2 from 7 to 10 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Sept. 20.
