3:29 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 44 percent, barometer 29.20 inches, adjusted altitude 3,177 feet, track temperature 125 degrees.

In the heat of the afternoon, Ellis' third pass produced a competitive 60-foot time and his best run so far. Chip Ellis' incremental times: 60ft-1.084 sec., 330ft-2.955, 660ft-4.535/155.11 mph, 1,000ft-5.918.
