JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 11th annual Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.404/264.18, Now #4; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.642/245.85, Now #21; Best prior run: 11.742/87.75, Was #29
8:49 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 66 percent, barometer 29.13 inches, adjusted altitude 3,318 feet, track temperature 88 degrees.
Dreher got out of the groove around half-track and tip-toed down the
center-line. Reichert goes right down the groove and gets in the fourth spot.
Left Lane: Dana Stripe Runs 5.507/257.33, Now #14; Best prior run: 13.116/74.72, Was #31
Right Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 5.741/243.28, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.193/243.11, Was #27
Samsel was moving around all the way through the run, improves a little, but still isn't qualified. Stripe goes right down the groove and gets in the show for now.
Left Lane: Cody Perkins Runs 5.609/219.69, Now #22; Best prior run: 10.521/78.81, Was #31
Right Lane: Brian Mans Runs 6.371/237.75, Now #29; Best prior run: 6.130/188.44, Was #28
Perkins was on a good run then popped the burst panel about 1200 feet out. Mans makes a clean pass but the engine seemed a little sluggish all the way through the run.
Left Lane: Jeff Veale Runs 5.959/236.71, Now #28; Best prior run: 5.832/237.96, Was #27
Right Lane: Todd Datweiler Runs 5.549/251.30, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.041/234.94, Was #28
Datweiler had a hole out on the left side all the way through the run. Veale's car was a little sluggish off the line, then looked like it lost a cylinder or two.
Left Lane: Courtney Force Runs 5.737/248.43, Now #26; Best prior run: 5.724/245.27, Was #26
Right Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 5.718/243.63, Now #25; Best prior run: 5.661/251.25, Was #25
Both cars get about 300 feet out, both drivers pedal once. No improvement for either driver.
Left Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.542/257.14, Now #20; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Justin Davis Runs 5.501/258.07, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.559/224.70, Was #20
McPhillips was mixing up cylinders all the way through the run. Davis makes a clean run and gets in the show for now.
Left Lane: Brandon Lewis Runs 5.453/258.27, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.596/256.36, Was #23
Right Lane: Richard Putz Runs 7.877/113.46, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.508/259.76, Was #16
Putz has problems early in the run and clicks it off early. Lewis makes a good looking pass and bumps out Putz.
Left Lane: Ken Perry Runs 5.545/255.68, Now #22; Best prior run: 5.586/252.43, Was #23
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.295/260.46, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.504/267.69, Was #15
A great pass for Shields, though it could have been better. He gets about 1100 feet out and the engine starts eating itself up. Perry improves a little over his earlier run but still isn't in the show.
Left Lane: Tim Bowgren Runs 9.186/87.97, Now #20; Best prior run: 5.533/255.68, Was #20
Right Lane: John Finke Runs 5.427/257.87, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.498/258.17, Was #14
Bowgren gets out of the groove, the rear of the car starts to move around, then he clicks it off. Finke goes right down the groove and moves up to the top half of the field.
Left Lane: Thomas Bayer Runs 5.505/258.07, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.522/258.67, Was #19
Right Lane: Noah Condo Runs 5.420/263.77, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.495/260.16, Was #14
A couple of good looking runs, Bayer goes right down the groove, Condo drifts a little left.
Left Lane: Jeff Bohr Runs 5.441/265.27, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.514/265.12, Was #19
Right Lane: Darryl Hitchman Runs 11.012/94.15, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.493/258.27, Was #14
Hitchman goes up in smoke at the hit and he clicks it off. Bohr gets out of the groove and drifts close to the wall. Bohr doesn't back off and gets in the field in the ninth spot.
Left Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 5.513/266.53, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.492/271.57, Was #14
Right Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.482/253.37, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.478/258.86, Was #13
Left Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.467/264.44, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.433/265.69, Was #8
Right Lane: Aaron Tatum Runs 5.361/269.46, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.472/262.33, Was #12
Left Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 5.385/267.53, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.403/267.32, Was #5
Right Lane: Brandon Pierce Runs 15.396/65.96, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.452/269.83, Was #11
Pierce rattles the tires right off the line and clicks it off. Whiteley makes a good pass but stays in the fifth spot.
Left Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 5.343/268.54, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.362/268.87, Was #3
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 5.327/269.73, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.376/271.52, Was #4
