Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Final Session

TOPEKA, Kan. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual O'Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals presented by Castrol GTX listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.818/200.29, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.867/199.97, Was #23

Weather conditions: air temperature 87 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 28.79 inches, adjusted altitude 4,019 feet, track temperature 121 degrees.

Watson with his second best run of the weekend, but he will not get into the show.


Left Lane: Kenny Koretsky No Time, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.805/201.88, Was #20
Right Lane: Lamar Swindoll Jr Runs 8.074/124.60, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.828/200.59, Was #23

Koretsky qualified at the first event here in 1989. Koretsky was real loose right off the starting line and then starting drifting toward the centerline and he collects the 330-foot cone and tried to reel it in. The car then darted across the track and it hit the wall real hard and it then went on it roof, it then took another barrel roll and end up on its roof as it slid across into the other lane wall and hit the wall first with the back of the car then spun around and the front end hit the wall. Koretsky is out of the car and is okay. Not sure what happened with Swindoll, but he coasted through the 1320 in front of Koretsky and he will not make the show.

Right Lane: Max Naylor Runs 6.824/200.47, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.814/199.61, Was #21

Yonke with severe tire shake right off the starting line and he pushed in the clutch and coasted on through the 1320. No help here for Naylor and he will not get into the show.


Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.826/202.33, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.776/203.55, Was #18
Right Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 6.807/202.18, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.767/202.88, Was #17

Gray with tire shake, but he drove through it. He will not get in the show. No help for Hammonds and he will not get into the show.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.739/205.51, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.764/205.26, Was #16
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.777/204.14, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.755/203.12, Was #12

Johnson with a great pass here in the heat of the day to get off the bump and into the top half of the show. Warren Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.019 sec., 330ft-2.832, 660ft-4.342/162.92mph, 1,000ft-5.642 No help here for Coughlin.

Left Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.772/203.37, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.761/203.68, Was #16
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.769/202.88, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.754/203.55, Was #12

The bump was Warren Johnson coming into this round at 6.764 seconds, neither of these cars improve and Humphreys will stay on the bump. Justin Humphreys' incremental times: 60ft-1.014 sec., 330ft-2.830, 660ft-4.350/161.56mph, 1,000ft-5.665
Jim Yates' incremental times: 60ft-1.006 sec., 330ft-2.825, 660ft-4.346/161.52mph, 1,000ft-5.660

Left Lane: Todd Hoerner Runs 6.789/202.79, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.760/202.61, Was #15
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.762/202.88, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.751/203.16, Was #11

No help for either of these two, but Line runs second quickest pass of the session and he also runs quicker than what the bump was coming into this session. Line will start the season from the bottom half of the field for the first time this year.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.787/202.39, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.759/203.61, Was #14
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 13.438/62.69, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.749/203.43, Was #9

Morgan will race on Sunday for the first time this year, and he has a lot of tire shake right off the starting line. No help here for Anderson and he will start from the bottom half of the show.
