BRISTOL, Tenn. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Eighth annual O'Reilly NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals presented by Q listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Roger Burgess Runs 6.348/208.23, Now #17; Best prior run: 10.754/72.89, Was #20
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 6.180/234.78, Now #15; Best prior run: 10.381/83.54, Was #19

5:51 p.m. Payne was moving around early in the run but never backed off the throttle. Burgess makes a clean pass but doesn't make it in the field.

Left Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 10.251/86.27, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.423/215.75, Was #19
Right Lane: Mike Knowles Runs 6.525/226.77, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.690/222.95, Was #20

Knowles rattled the tires and had to pedal couple of times. Lastor gets about 300 feet out and had to back off the throttle.

Left Lane: Tim Tindle Runs 10.056/99.80, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.170/231.16, Was #14
Right Lane: Steve Engel Runs 8.458/109.94, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.394/236.01, Was #18

Tindle goes up in smoke early and gives up on the run. Engel gets a little further, gets out of shape, then aborts the run.

Left Lane: Eddie Ware Runs 6.103/233.92, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.151/233.16, Was #13
Right Lane: Kirk Kuhns Runs 6.006/234.98, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.106/233.80, Was #9

Kuhns goes right down the groove with the quickest run of the weekend so far. Ware makes a decent pass and moves up to the ninth spot.

Left Lane: Tony Pontieri No Time, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.148/234.86, Was #13
Right Lane: Rick Stivers Runs 6.308/231.28, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.104/233.96, Was #10

Pontieri has problems and is pushed off the track. Stivers makes a clean run but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Raymond Commisso Runs 12.810/80.30, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.117/242.02, Was #12
Right Lane: Shelly Payne Runs 6.009/234.04, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.088/236.22, Was #7

Payne makes another good run and moves into the second spot behind Kuhns. Comisso has traction problems early and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Scott Ray Runs 6.021/236.09, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.108/234.90, Was #11
Right Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 8.511/109.22, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.065/239.53, Was #6

Ashley has traction problems early and has to give up on the run. Ray makes a great run and gets in the fourth spot.

Left Lane: Harold Laird Runs 7.826/123.24, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.084/233.84, Was #8
Right Lane: John Russo Runs 9.474/95.82, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.050/240.59, Was #6

0 for 2 on this one. Russo clicks it off before half-track, Laird soon after.

Left Lane: Joshua Hernandez Runs 5.950/241.11, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.048/238.98, Was #5
Right Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 6.373/177.30, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.020/238.98, Was #3

Hernandez saves the best for last, right down the groove to take the pole. Rowe had problems late in the run and clicked it off about 900 feet out.
