LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Third annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run: Left Lane: Bill Hill Runs 8.942/94.78, Now #21; No Prior Run Right Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 6.345/218.41, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.310/221.82, Was #2 3:07 p.m. Scott Ray is currently on the bump at 6.372. Bill Hill is known as "The Thrill" and he had quite a thrilling ride yesterday as his car veered across the centerline on his first pass. Patterson makes a good pass in the heat (it's 81 degrees) and Hill clicks it before half-track. Left Lane: Von Smith Runs 6.260/227.69, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.335/226.39, Was #4 Right Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 10.518/96.41, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.335/220.40, Was #5 Awesome run by Smith, as he lays down the quickest and fastest run of the event. Castellana's car moved to the right very early in the run and he had to shut off. Left Lane: Tim McAmis Runs 6.326/223.39, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.392/221.42, Was #10 Right Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 6.360/222.25, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.381/220.58, Was #9 Good runs for both teams, as McAmis goes to the top half of the field, and Ashley gets in on the bump. Left Lane: Scott Ray Runs 6.371/219.86, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.372/218.30, Was #10 Right Lane: Chip King Runs 6.369/218.27, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.367/223.14, Was #9 King and Ray just got bumped by McAmis and Ashley. King had some trouble at the end of the run, as the car was all over the lane, and crossed the centerline. Nice job getting it stopped by King. Left Lane: Wayne Torkelson Runs 6.327/220.80, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.438/219.01, Was #15 Right Lane: Marty McGinnis Runs 6.634/213.16, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.592/213.47, Was #18 Torkelson picks up more than a tenth and bumps Ashley. McGinnis had to drive through tire shake early in the run, slowing him considerably. Left Lane: Harold Martin Runs 6.370/195.59, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.337/223.65, Was #8 Right Lane: Zach Barklage Runs 6.506/222.73, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.401/223.69, Was #12 Martin now occupies the bump spot. Martin runs a unique electronic fuel-injected combination. Martin was trailing smoke at the end of the run, but before that, he was on a great run, just two thousandths slower at half-track than Smith on his 6.26 pass. Left Lane: John Scialpi Runs 6.333/223.58, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.427/220.76, Was #15 Right Lane: Rick Distefano Runs 6.307/225.26, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.032/150.18, Was #20 Scialpi gets in despite a 1.096 short time. By contrast, Distefano was 1.021 at 60 feet. We currently have four West Coast cars in the top eight. Left Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 6.417/222.66, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.418/221.56, Was #16 Right Lane: Dennis Radford Runs 6.391/220.76, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.328/221.56, Was #7 No help for either driver, as Critchley uses up a lot of race track. Still, he never lifted and did a good job getting the car down the track. Left Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 11.667/88.09, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.402/217.25, Was #15 Right Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 6.297/222.14, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.303/220.15, Was #2 Jenkins got knocked off the top spot by Von Smith earlier, so he's gunning for a mid-twenty. Stott was in the final here last year, so it would be a shocker if he did not qualify. Jenkins gets a twenty, but he'll stay second. Stott, on the other hand, was all over the track early, and he's down to his last chance. Left Lane: Fred Hahn Runs 6.347/224.40, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.576/219.54, Was #18 Hahn makes a good pass, but he will not get in. Your AMS Pro Modified points leader is not qualified after three sessions. Left Lane: Dan Rowe Runs 6.663/168.11, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.889/157.41, Was #20 Rowe had nothing but trouble yesterday and finds himself way back in the qualifying order. On this run, he was on pace for a mid-forty when the motor went silent just past the 1000-foot mark. 3:46 p.m.
