Pro Modified Qualifying Notes, Final Session

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Torco Pro Modified at the 2007 Knoll-Gas Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series, IHRA World Finals Presented by The U.S. Air Force featuring UTI CHampionship Sunday listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 15.664/51.81, Now #25; Best prior run: 13.514/80.72, Was #25
Right Lane: Steve Engel Runs 6.608/233.72, Now #23; Best prior run: 10.860/105.18, Was #24

8:15 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 49 percent, barometer 29.61 inches, adjusted altitude 1,455 feet, track temperature 80 degrees.

Harold Martin is on the bump spot at 6.244.

Both cars overpowered the launch pad, shaking hard.


Left Lane: Jeff Lamantia Runs 6.595/228.69, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.726/222.99, Was #24

Same story, LaMantia pedaling a couple times in order to complete the run.

Left Lane: Mark Nielsen Runs 6.104/234.17, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.414/227.80, Was #20
Right Lane: John Russo Runs 10.279/93.30, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.475/227.57, Was #22

Russo shook hard and slowed, but Nielsen got it all in order this time around and made a fine run to bump well into the field. Now Ed Hoover is on the bump spot at 6.233.

Left Lane: Barney Squiers Runs 19.695/39.90, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.277/223.06, Was #19
Right Lane: Steve Carrier No Time, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.439/215.72, Was #21

Carrier was unable to answer the staging call. Squiers launched, shook, pedaled, then pulled over next to the wall, the driver's side door hanging half-open.

Left Lane: Chris Russo Runs 6.084/229.90, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.227/229.39, Was #15
Right Lane: Steve Vick Runs 13.099/79.75, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.377/220.40, Was #20

Vick's car shook hard and he coasted through. Russo made a nice run, right down the groove, moving way up in the field on a career-best pass.

Left Lane: Jason Hamstra Runs 12.501/68.10, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.162/229.20, Was #14
Right Lane: Tommy Gray Runs 6.174/233.72, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.248/228.50, Was #18

Hamstra's car headed for the centerline and he lifted. Gray bumped in, on a career-best run, bumping Hoover. Now Burton Auxier is on the bump spot at 6.177.

Left Lane: Pat Stoken Runs 6.127/231.56, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.122/229.78, Was #12
Right Lane: Harold Martin Runs 7.447/133.42, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.244/205.41, Was #18

Martin was on and off the throttle a couple times, the headers belching orange flames. Nice pass by Stoken, but no improvement.

Left Lane: Jim Halsey Runs 6.081/231.28, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.121/228.42, Was #11
Right Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 11.085/80.79, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.233/228.23, Was #17

Hoover's car shook, bucked and snorted, so he lifted. Halsey's run didn't look all that quick, but the numbers were impressive.

Left Lane: Mike Stawicki Runs 5.979/233.16, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.094/228.73, Was #8
Right Lane: Burton Auxier Runs 6.143/216.00, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.177/224.43, Was #16

No more bumping.Two nice-looking runs, a career-best ET for Auxier, but Stawicki also ran a career-best by a tenth of a second and five mph. Nice job and he's #1 (for now...).

Left Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.056/235.93, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.094/233.96, Was #8
Right Lane: Tony Pontieri Runs 6.082/234.53, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.152/228.73, Was #14

Two more nice runs and a career-best ET for Stott, by a thousandth.

Left Lane: Chip King Runs 6.017/229.35, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.081/230.06, Was #7
Right Lane: Kenny Lang Runs 6.016/236.42, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.100/234.49, Was #11

Wow! These two were side-by-side all the way down the track. Lang ran a career-best ET to edge King for the second spot.

Left Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 10.228/78.19, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.077/231.16, Was #7
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 6.141/232.31, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.095/233.80, Was #11

This time out, Jenkins shook and was off the throttle by 300 feet. Hagan ran it all the way through, failed to improve.

Left Lane: Scott Cannon Runs 5.969/239.27, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.076/227.00, Was #6
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.008/210.41, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.028/237.13, Was #4

Two nice runs, and between the five points for "Last Man Standing" and two points for qualifying two positions ahead of Janis, Cannon just clinched the 2007 championship (barring oildown penalties).
