   10 V. Gaines 357 Larry Morgan
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.093 6.664 205.85 0.022 6.794 206.23
 Qualified: #9 6.668 206.20 #8 6.663 205.85
11:56 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 51 percent, barometer 29.83 inches, adjusted altitude 2,138 feet, track temperature 102 degrees.

As the crew chiefs do their traditional Pro Stock Shuffle on the starting line, they have to be double checking their tuneups. There was a good track for the fuel cars for the most part, but I have the impression that the Pro Stock cars have been having trouble with the transition and gear changes, expecially in the left lane.

This is Morgan's 300th career start in Pro Stock and he holds a 6-2 advantage over Gaines. V. is a Morgan engine leasing customer and has qualified in the ninth spot 15 times, the most of any spot.

Long time (but retired) Safety Safari member Jere Grice has been hanging out with the Pro Stock teams this wekeend while wearing a NitroFish shirt. He's with Gaines.

OK, so there's nothing wrong with the left lane. Gaines is much quicker on the front half and Morgan's top end charge isn't enough to take the win.

V. Gaines' MOV: 0.0592 seconds (approximately 18 feet).V. Gaines' incremental times: 60ft-0.981 sec., 330ft-2.773, 660ft-4.275/163.73mph, 1,000ft-5.571
Larry Morgan's incremental times: 60ft-1.040 sec., 330ft-2.895, 660ft-4.406/162.84mph, 1,000ft-5.702

1 Jason Line 103 Max Naylor
E1 0.081 6.648 207.94 ****WINNER**** 0.037 6.676 205.22
 Qualified: #10 6.671 206.76 #7 6.660 205.60
Naylor's Jaegermeister entry is making a start for the 26th time. This is his 16th race where he starts from the top half of the field. Interestingly enough, Max has the upper hand against Line due to a 2-1 record. Jason is making his 94th start in a row and only the 18th from the bottom half of the field.

Naylor once again rules the front half of the track and Line can't catch him. The crows goes wild. No, seriously. Max has been gaining a whole bunch of fan support lately.

Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.782, 660ft-4.277/164.69mph, 1,000ft-5.563
Max Naylor's incremental times: 60ft-0.980 sec., 330ft-2.776, 660ft-4.280/163.37mph, 1,000ft-5.578

6 Allen Johnson 5 Kurt Johnson
E1 0.020 6.658 206.51 ****WINNER**** 0.029 6.645 207.50
 Qualified: #6 6.659 206.48 #11 6.681 206.61
Johnson vs Johnson has proven to be a great race many times in the past. Kurt and Allen are tied after meeting each other 18 times.

And this one's no different. The cars are welded together the entire length of the track but KJ pulls out his quickest pass of the weekend to take the win.

Kurt Johnson's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.009), 330 ft(-0.008), 660ft(-0.005), 1,000ft(0.000). MOV: 0.0049 seconds (approximately 18 inches).

1568 Justin Humphreys 4 Mike Edwards
E1 0.024 6.683 207.11 ****WINNER**** 0.018 6.681 206.32
 Qualified: #5 6.656 206.89 #12 6.681 205.82
This is only the eleventh start in Humphreys' young career, the fourth in the top half, and the #5 spot is the highest he's ever achieved. Edwards is making his 13th start from the 12th position and Jason is the 58th different racer he's competed against.

It's another really close race with the veteran Edwards coming out on top. Humprhey's car was moving around a bit in the first couple of gears and it cost him.

2 Greg Anderson 8 Greg Stanfield
E1 0.032 7.252 148.28 ****WINNER**** 0.048 6.701 204.70
 Qualified: #4 6.652 206.99 #13 6.692 205.91
Anderson comes into this pair with a career record of 353-121. He's 11-3 when racing Stanfield, who has a 106-113 overall tally.

In a shocker, Anderson has Stanfield covered and then BREAKS! This is two races in a row, and that is totally unlike the Summit team. It looked like Greg's car nosed over about the time it went into high gear.

3 Dave Connolly 351 Ron Krisher
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.041 6.661 207.15 0.114 6.680 205.57
 Qualified: #2 6.645 206.67 #15 6.697 205.76
It's hard to remember when Connolly wasn't as dominant as he is now, but his record against Krisher is only 5-4. Dave starts in the #2 spot for the tenth time.

This one's over at the starting line, but Connolly also had the performance he needed.

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
9 Richie Stevens 107 Kenny Koretsky
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.079 6.654 206.86 0.137 6.691 206.01
 Qualified: #3 6.646 207.15 #14 6.692 205.69
Richie is making his 8th start from the third spot and his second in a row. He's a perfect 2-0 against Koretsky.

Both cars turn on the first bulbs and then wait. Nobody's going in.

After about 30 seconds, Richie goes in first and Korestky follows. It's all Stevens from the green light on.

202 Tommy Brown 25 Jeg Coughlin
E1 -0.068 6.701 205.26 ****WINNER**** 0.056 6.671 207.78
 Qualified: #16 6.699 205.16 #1 6.645 207.27
Brown is the 52nd different opponent who Jeg has lined up against. Jeg has qualified in the top spot twelve times with four of those coming this year. He has three wins from the top spot. This is Brown's first appearance this year, with eight races total. He's in the Steve Schmidt Competition Cobalt, which is essentially a turnkey Pro Stock rental.

In his first round of competition in Pro Stock, Brown bulbs and no one will hold that against him.
