The Woz uses all of his lane as he tried to cross the centerline twice on his way down, but still gets the win over Lee.

5 Bucky Austin 72 Mert Littlefield
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.138 5.656 249.63 -0.500 No Time
Qualified: #2 5.619 256.70 #15 5.734 248.66
Littlefield leaves before the tree is activated so the MPH is the only time that was
valid. Austin moves on.Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed 727 Ron August Jr 2 Steve Gasparrelli E1 -0.093 5.946 228.15 ****WINNER**** 0.019 5.647 255.68 Qualified: #14 5.720 242.10 #3 5.620 257.97August goes red and Gasparrelli gets the win. There was a pretty good puff of smoke out of the winning car as he got to the lights. Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed 53 Vern Moats 714 Dennis Taylor E1 0.088 5.740 245.58 ****WINNER**** 0.062 5.724 246.62 Qualified: #5 5.628 249.07 #12 5.701 250.27We have another upset as #5 Moats goes down to #12 Taylor. Moats drifted around the left lane and I'm certain that cost him just a bit of ET. Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed 75 Ed Marx 77 John Weaver E1 0.068 5.672 255.19 ****WINNER**** 0.022 5.708 248.89 Qualified: #6 5.630 256.60 #11 5.690 249.81Weaver steals one from Marx. Marx wasn't late and a .068 is a pretty good light. Weaver's was just better and he gets the holeshot win. Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed 76 Doug Gordon 7 Marc White E1 0.071 5.739 250.55 ****WINNER**** 0.043 5.698 252.43 Qualified: #7 5.646 248.39 #10 5.681 250.97White is in the Randy Goodwin car and will face Gordon. White leaves first and is never headed. He takes the win but when he reached for the parachute release nothing happened. White got the car sideways in the shutoff area with smoke coming off the rear tires. He came to a stop with the front lip of the body just overhanging the edge of the sand and touching nothing. When he got out of the car he appeared to be a little bit hot. That's the exciting conclusion to the first round of Alcohol Funny Car.
