Track Drying Begins
By Larry Sullivan

POMONA, Calif. -

10:30 a.m. The rain has let up, skies are brightening and the Safety Safari is moving into position to begin drying the track.

The Pomona racing surface typically takes at least 2-1/2 hours to dry, even with two jet dryers, so the earliest racing could begin is 1 p.m.

The weather forecast for the rest of the day calls for cloudy skies, but only a slight chance of rain, and race officials are confident they can get a curfew extension to 8 or 9 p.m. in order to finish the event today.
