POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 47th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts Winternationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.696/206.86, Now #1

2:42 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 64 degrees, relative humidity 25 percent, barometer 29.15 inches, adjusted altitude 1,342 feet, track temperature 85 degrees.

Humphreys is a rookie in Pro Stock, making his initial run in the category. And it was a nice one, smooth and straight and very quick - the track Et record is Jason Line's 6.634 from last year's Finals.


Left Lane: Roger Brogdon Runs 6.672/197.13, Now #1
Right Lane: Dwayne Rice Runs 6.809/199.46, Now #3

Rice left a lot on the table early in the run and Brogdon's car made a big swooping move out to the left on the launch.

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 15.230/56.48, Now #5
Right Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.682/207.34, Now #2

Watson shook hard and coasted through. Full pull for "Captain Chaos."

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.677/207.43, Now #2
Right Lane: Tony Rizzo Runs 6.734/206.16, Now #5

Nobody is cutting great 60-foot times so far, Coughlin's 1.004 and Brogdon's 1.002 the best of the round so far.

Left Lane: Max Naylor Runs 6.696/206.48, Now #6
Right Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.689/207.91, Now #4

Nice runs, a pair.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.707/206.54, Now #8
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.707/206.61, Now #7

Identical ETs, neither will be pleased with them.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.676/207.56, Now #2
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.729/205.79, Now #10

WJ moves into the #2 spot on a nice run. Morgan lost a lot of ground to WJ in the first half of the run.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.696/206.80, Now #7
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 14.735/59.58, Now #14

Stevens' car shook and danced on the launch. Gaines made a nice pass to join the tightly-bunched field.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.673/207.30, Now #3
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.671/207.43, Now #1

Two more join the tight pack at the head of the field.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.691/206.64, Now #9
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.666/207.82, Now #1

KJ broke the one-second barrier in the first 60 feet, the first to do so, with a 0.992, and roared to the top of the heap on a nice pass.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.676/207.18, Now #7
Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.656/207.94, Now #1

Two more sub-one-second 60-foot times - 0.998 for Edwards, 0.999 for Connolly. Edwards was unable to capitaalize on it, Connolly went to #1.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.647/208.33, Now #1
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.690/207.37, Now #12

Last pair. Line's car spun the tires on the launch. Anderson's did not and he turned a 0.999 60-foot time into a #1 spot until tomorrow. Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.999 sec., 330ft-2.794, 660ft-4.284/165.42mph, 1,000ft-5.566.
