LAS VEGAS -- Tony Fuller of Las Vegas won the $5,000 Super Pro finale during the first of four days of racing at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's annual Thanksgiving weekend Las Vegas Bracket Nationals. Fuller's Valvoline-sponsored dragster defeated Al Chinn of Auburn, Wash., for the victory. Fuller posted a .003 reaction time to Chinn's .005 and ran 7.712 sec./173 mph. Larry Hale of Buhl, Idaho, won what is believed to be the oldest final-round pairing in the history of The Strip at LVMS. Buhl, 71, defeated "Papa Joe" Furiani, 70, of San Gabriel, Calif., to win the Pro finale. Hale's 1960 Studebaker Lark cruised to an easy win after Furiani fouled (red-lit) on the starting line. Scott Parsons of Monroe, Utah, won the Street final over Matt Crockett. Brandi Clark won the "Best Of The Losers" consolation race over Becky Phlegar. The Las Vegas Bracket Nationals continues through the weekend at The Strip at LVMS with separate races on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. The field of entries includes NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Top Fuel Dragster drivers Rod Fuller and Jack Beckman. Saturday's race features the $1,000 entry fee "winner-take-all" Ultimate Gambler.
