Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Final Session
By Darryl Jackman

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 42nd annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Connie Cohen Runs 7.377/177.65, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.426/168.98, Was #21

2:57 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 69 degrees, relative humidity 52 percent, barometer 29.07 inches, adjusted altitude 1,942 feet, track temperature 84 degrees.

The weather is really odd right now. Full cloud cover and a head wind. Cohen finally gets a straight run out of the bike and had this been Thursday she might have had a chance. As is the team will be packing the trailer.

Left Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.267/181.79, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.235/181.45, Was #20
Right Lane: Marco Andreano Runs 7.284/181.06, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.162/181.98, Was #18

Both riders fail to improve and will be spectators on Sunday.

Left Lane: Chris Rivas Runs 7.178/181.76, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.171/182.87, Was #19
Right Lane: Scott Lewis Runs 7.339/181.74, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.149/181.01, Was #17

Rivas ties his best of the weekend and that just wasn't quite good enough. Lewis was close on his second hit but no joy there either.

Left Lane: Tom Bradford Runs 7.145/184.45, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.142/188.62, Was #16
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.194/184.25, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.133/184.47, Was #15

We're into the qualified bikes now and for this pair nothing changes.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.180/180.50, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.131/180.91, Was #14
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.196/183.72, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.118/186.95, Was #13

Two more 'failed to improves' go into the books.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.136/187.60, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.109/187.08, Was #12
Right Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.196/186.02, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.107/185.61, Was #11

Johnson loses less than the rest but gets no help. Tonglet is off almost a tenth.

Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.110/188.89, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.094/190.11, Was #8
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 18.542/40.14, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.106/184.70, Was #10

Brown sits up early and and chance to score more points in qualifying goes away. Hines has the maximum qualifying points at the moment. Phillips with a good run.

Left Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.105/186.98, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.088/186.38, Was #7
Right Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.126/187.39, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.102/188.70, Was #9

Schnitz has the best run of the session to this point and Scali is right behind.

Left Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.086/184.60, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.081/185.51, Was #5
Right Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.128/184.40, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.081/183.10, Was #6

Now it's Guidera with the best hit of the session. Ellis was good, but not better.

Left Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 7.100/185.87, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.066/188.07, Was #3
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.114/176.42, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.081/188.28, Was #4

Gann really tiptoed down the center line but doesn't cross. Sampey with a good run as well.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.054/188.86, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.020/191.00, Was #1
Right Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.059/190.54, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.046/190.35, Was #2

Great side by side race here. If this had been sunday I might want Treble in the office pool. That ends the final qualifying session of the season for the bikes.
