POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 42nd annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Jose Maldonado Runs 6.805/203.55, Now #20; Best prior run: 14.556/56.89, Was #24
1:45 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 33 percent, barometer 29.12 inches, adjusted altitude 2,171 feet, track temperature 104 degrees.
Warren Johnson is on the bump spot at 6.745.
Maldonado will make another single to start the round. He
spins a little off the line and moves out of the groove. He makes a full pull this time, but will
not make the field this session.
Left Lane: Bob Panella Runs 6.715/206.67, Now #5; Best prior run: 14.231/61.15, Was #24
Right Lane: Max Naylor Runs 6.744/206.07, Now #17; No Prior Run
The Sox and Martin tribute paint scheme on Panella's Dodge brings back a lot of great memories. Naylor waits for the green this time [.108 RT]. He would have bumped into the field, except for Panella's big move up the ladder into the current #5 spot.
Left Lane: Tony Rizzo Runs 6.798/202.82, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.070/201.79, Was #23
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.688/207.27, Now #3; Best prior run: 14.155/61.19, Was #25
Both cars improve with Rizzo just a little and Johnson a bunch. He runs into the six sixties and the current #3 spot. Nice pass.
Left Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.725/205.79, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.757/205.72, Was #21
Right Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.784/206.35, Now #22; Best prior run: 11.977/74.55, Was #25
Kaptain Khaos's car moves out of the groove at the hit and, although he gets a full pass, he will be outside looking in with two sessions to go. Enders picks up about .003 in ET and nine positions on the field.
Left Lane: Tommy Lee Runs 12.726/69.43, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.753/206.26, Was #21
Right Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.761/203.92, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.794/202.76, Was #23
Ron Krisher is on the bump spot at 6.730. Lee's car is all over the lane at the launch and he has to lift. Watson sneaks up a little on the ET and will stay outside the field.
Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.748/205.88, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.739/205.32, Was #18
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.776/206.10, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.745/205.98, Was #20
Two clean side by side passes, but no joy for either team. They'll get two more tries tomorrow.
Left Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.749/204.88, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.736/204.85, Was #17
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.757/205.98, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.730/204.85, Was #16
Both cars make a hard move to the right at the hit and pull back into the groove. Too much moving around will keep them in the same spots on the ladder.
Left Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.707/206.35, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.729/206.45, Was #14
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.717/205.94, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.730/205.88, Was #15
Two nice looking side by side runs and they both make a nice move up the field and into the top half of the field for now. Looks like Krisher will stay on the bump until tomorrow, as the rest of the session has cars that are already qualified.
Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.714/206.23, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.725/206.32, Was #13
Right Lane: Dave Northrop Runs 6.734/206.20, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.727/205.01, Was #15
Coughlin tunes it up and slides the Slammer's car into the top half of the field. Northrup has a clean pass and improves on his MPH, but will stay in the #15 spot.
Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.709/206.16, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.719/206.23, Was #10
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.718/207.30, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.724/206.76, Was #13
Two runs right down Broadway [or Parker Ave.] and both cars move up the ladder. Johnson gets the best of it and will take up a spot in the top half of the field.
Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.705/205.94, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.711/204.91, Was #7
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.724/206.76, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.723/205.85, Was #13
Morgan is running the Rod Shop tribute paint scheme this weekend and makes another pass within .001 of yesterdays. Gains continues the right lane strength and moves two spots up the ladder.
Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.705/206.51, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.701/206.35, Was #4
Right Lane: Tommy Brown Runs 6.734/206.45, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.722/204.79, Was #12
Connolly improves his ET and speed, but will stay #4. Big two MPH improvement for Brown but he too will stay in the same position on the ladder.
Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.667/207.21, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.688/207.34, Was #2
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.685/207.59, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.677/205.94, Was #1
The session ends with the top two cars and Jason nudges the boss down a spot. Anderson wins the MPH battle, but will have to settle for the #2 spot until tomorrow.
