NOBLE, Okla. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, South Central Division, event at Thunder Valley Raceway Park listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Jackie Stidham Runs 5.727/252.80, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.804/246.23, Was #4
Right Lane: Lance Van Hauen Runs 8.500/121.34, Now #12; Best prior run: 8.496/130.79, Was #12
Van Hauen was very close to the retaining wall just before half track.
Left Lane: Mike Newkirk Runs 7.520/156.03, Now #12; Best prior run: 14.123/43.40, Was #14
Right Lane: Marty Nothstein Runs 5.807/251.04, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.284/173.31, Was #9
Newkirk was all over his lane all the way down the track.
Left Lane: Roger Bateman Runs 5.707/252.24, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.045/152.46, Was #11
Right Lane: Steve Harker Runs 5.707/254.95, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.762/246.57, Was #2
A good looking side-by-side drag race! Harker moves into the top spot by virtue of the faster speed.
Left Lane: Shawn Jones Runs 5.773/251.18, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.874/236.84, Was #8
Right Lane: Jimmy Jones Runs 5.744/255.10, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.772/248.48, Was #4
Another good looking pair. Shawn Jones' car bounced a bit at each shift point.
Left Lane: Ron Morrison Runs 5.941/245.09, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.278/218.55, Was #10
Right Lane: Kirk Williams Runs 5.894/247.32, Now #9; Best prior run: 13.502/73.08, Was #14
Morrison left soft, Williams was moving around some, and neither driver is in the show.
Left Lane: Brandon Lewis Runs 5.769/248.07, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.804/248.07, Was #6
Right Lane: Paul Anderson Runs 5.732/249.72, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.946/246.71, Was #11
Both drivers were moving around some, and they both improve.
Right Lane: Vern Moats Runs 7.224/138.78, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.029/136.28, Was #12
Moats was loose and he drifted close to the wall at half track.
Right Lane: Kebin Kinsley Runs 13.554/67.54, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.833/241.54, Was #9
Kinsley had severe tire shake on the hit, so bad that his chute shook out at about 150 feet.
