AMERICUS, Ga. --

George Bryce
George Bryce, 51, of G2 Motorsports/Star Racing, suffered what is being called a minor heart incident at his home in Americus Saturday morning. "I had just re-started my exercise regime and thought I had pulled a muscle on Friday night," said George. "On Saturday morning I told Jackie that it felt like my daughter Julie was sitting on my chest and I was having some pain in my arm. Jackie asked which side and when I said left she said let's go and we were off to Sumter Regional Hospital (Americus, GA)".

"We called our doctor and he told us he would meet us at the hospital," said Jackie Bryce. "When we got there it was as if former-President Jimmy Carter had rolled into the hospital. They had all kinds of equipment and personal waiting for us. They immediately hooked George up to an EKG machine and determined that there was some abnormal activity. They started him on a nitro drip and decided to transport him by "heart truck" to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, GA. When we arrived there Dr. Steven Mitchell was waiting for us.

The doctors determined that George had indeed suffered a mild heart attack due to a weakening of the left descending artery wall. The artery had developed a weakness that allowed the area to "balloon". The balloon burst internally causing a 95% blockage of blood flow to the heart in that area. "Dr. Thomas Joiner was called in to do the surgery. That was very comforting to me as Dr. Joiner had been my Dad's surgeon when he had his problems a few years ago," said Jackie. "Dr. Joiner took George into surgery, telling me, that he would "be back in thirty-five minutes". True to his word in thirty-five minutes Dr. Joiner had inserted a stint and George was heading back to his room to rest."

"I was so glad to see that Dr. Joiner was there", said Jackie. "He told me it was something that could be fixed very easily and he did just that. When he came back from surgery he told me that George was good to go for another forty years. That made us all feel a lot better."

George will be monitored for the weekend in the hospital but is scheduled for release on Monday. The doctors have placed no limitations on activity for George and he expects to be back at full speed this week. "I told Chip (Ellis) that if he thought I was hard on him before, wait till I get back from the hospital", said a relieved George Bryce. "I'm going to be feeling so good that I'll have twice the energy to stay after my guys. I now have a 33% flow increase and everyone knows how much power that will make!"
