POMONA, Calif. - Results of final, round 4 eliminations in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 49th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals:

Whiteley is 4 - 0 against Ahten in prior events and this is the first time they have faced each other in a final round. Ahten has never had a win or runner up, so far. Whiteley has a 4-2 win ratio this year and a career 23-6 history. He has won the last three national events he entered. This is Whiteley's last scheduled event, as his son, Steve, is scheduled to take over the cockpit next year.

Ahten gets a big head start, but Whitely is out in front before the 60 foot light. Whiteley's tires start to shake and spin after that and he has to lift.

Ahten powers on down the track to take his first national event win, with his best speed of the weekend.

Johnny Ahten's incremental times: 60ft-0.981 sec., 330ft-2.485, 660ft-3.613/221.56 mph, 1,000ft-4.579.
