Woodburn Dragstrip Takes Home Team Title

SPOKANE, Wash. - Mark Simmons led the list of winners that are heading to the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship in November at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona by winning the NHRA Northwest Division Summit Racing Series Race of Champions this weekend at Spokane County Raceway while the team from Woodburn Dragstrip defended their Summit Racing Team Championship from a year ago. Joining Simmons are Chris Stone, AJ Tibbetts and Jeff Havens who will face off with Summit Division Champions from the six other NHRA divisions from across the country.

Simmons beat out Tom Stockero covering the quarter mile in 7.590 seconds at 165.83 mph in Super Pro. Stockero clocked in at 8.815, 152.46 in his Nova.

Stone, driving a Dodge Dart went 10.717 at 109.50 mph for the win in Pro taking out Dennis Dorsey running 10.469, 128.82 in his losing effort.

The Sportsman trophy went to Tibbetts while Havens won in the Bike category for the second year in a row. Tibbetts tripped the clocks in 12.889 seconds at just over 100 mph defeating Shannon Hensley with a red light foul start and Havens went 8.285 at 156.82 to knock out his son Jacob to earn back to back trips to Pomona. Not to be out done, Jacob came back on Sunday to advance to the finals for Northwest Division Summit Racing Championship and would not be denied this time beating Stacy Hesch for the trophy.

Sunday's Super Pro trophy went to Dave Sattem who defeated Tim Watts in 8.342 seconds at 161.31 mph while Chad Campbell took home the Pro trophy as he out ran Nicholas Shepherd with a 10.489, 123.35 to Shepherd's 10.878, 118.96.

In Sportsman, it was Jerry Durant Jr. taking the win over Gordon Rust. Durant went 14.530 at 78.37 mph to Rust's 13.366, 99.71.

Rounding out the Race of Champions winners on Saturday were Justin Vest in High School defeating Zachary Zurbrugg; Yeshua Wilcox winning over Jayden Meyers in Jr. Dragster Lightning; and Josh Schmanke taking out Chandler Steen in Jr. Dragster Thunder.

Pro ET -- Chris Stone, Dart, 10.717, 109.50 def. Dennis Dorsey, 10.469, 128.82.

Sportsman -- AJ Tibbetts, Camaro, 12.889, 100.10 def. Shannon Hensley, Mustang, foul.

Bike/Sled -- Jeff Havens, Suzuki, 8.285, 156.82 def. Jacob Havens, Suzuki, 8.848, 144.92.

Jr. Dragster Lightning -- Yeshua Wilcox, 8.173, 71.54 def. Jayden Meyers, 8.281, 78.96.

Jr. Dragster Thunder -- Josh Schmanke, 9.442, 68.97 def. Chandler Steen, 9.136, 70.56.

High School -- Justin Vest, Firebird, 11.494, 117.20 def. Zachary Zurbrugg, Sonoma, foul.

Sportsman -- Jerry Durant Jr, Dodge, 14.530, 78.37 def. Gordon Rust, Chevelle, 13.366, 99.71.

Bike/Sled -- Jacob Havens, Suzuki, 8.854, 140.40 def. Stacy Hesch, Suzuki, 8.617, 150.90.
