Special 60th Anniversary Celebration Planned for 2014 Chevrolet Performance U.S.

BROWNSBURG, Ind. -- Nationals
NHRA has announced that a special 60th anniversary celebration will take place during the 2014 NHRA
Mello Yello Drag Racing Series at the world's biggest and most prestigious event in drag racing,
the 60th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, Labor
Day weekend, Aug. 27-Sept. 1.
NHRA will celebrate the 60th running of the tradition-rich event that has showcased some of the
greatest and most memorable moments in the sport's history and will be announcing activities,
events, and promotions leading up to the milestone anniversary race that will make it a must-attend
event for NHRA fans.
NHRA is planning a number of special theme-park-style attractions that will bring to life some of
the biggest and most historical events that have occurred in the past 60 years at the Chevrolet
Performance U.S. Nationals, transforming the event into the ultimate NHRA Drag Racing theme park.
Among the planned activities are displays of vintage hot rods that have a connection to the event,
a special Track Walk, autograph sessions with many NHRA legends, an NHRA exclusive Cacklefest, and
much more. Throughout the next 12 months, NHRA will make several announcements regarding the
attractions and activities that will make the 60th Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals a
once-in-a-lifetime event for young fans, new fans, and those die-hard enthusiasts who have attended
the event for decades.
Also today, it was announced that a yearlong 60th anniversary sweepstakes promotion presented by
Candlewood Suites will award the grand-prize winner a trip for two to the 2014 Chevrolet
Performance U.S. Nationals.
The Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals marks the last race in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing
Series regular season, where the final positions for the NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the
Championship can be secured. Adding to the pressure that the teams and drivers will experience that
weekend will be the NHRA Traxxas Nitro Shootout for Top Fuel and Funny Car. The special
races-within-a-race bonus event features the best of the best in both categories vying for $100,000
winners' checks.
ESPN2 and ESPN2HD, a part of the ESPN network, the worldwide leader in sports, will again provide
extensive television coverage of the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals.
