Joe Stuebner Finally Gets to Victory Lane

MOHNTON, Pa. - Over the years, PPC Lubricants Victory was a familiar place for Joe Stuebner.

The motorcycle rider from Hamburg, Pa., has also won a handful of season titles in the Ray's Yamaha Top Bike class on the Sunoco Race Fuels Money Trail E.T. Series.

In 2013, he's made his share of appearances, cheering the four Top Bike victories by Cory Stuebner, his son and competitor.

In Sunday's Money Trail race, it was finally Joe's turn for some glory.

He claimed his first victory of the season by beating Cory in the final. On a 1990 2X10 motorcycle, Joe had a great reaction time and followed through with a pass of 8.468 seconds at 144.13 mph that was .008 over his dial. Cory was .107 off the line and couldn't catch up.

To get to the final, Joe beat Andy Dempsey (Narvon, Pa.) with another great start off the line and then passed through the semifinal when Allen Heilner (Birdsboro, Pa.) broke out. Cory was closer to his dial in the quarterfinals against Andy Gumpert (Limerick, Pa.) and then moved on when Danny Boyer (York, Pa.) broke out in the semis.

Speaking of family affairs, the Werners had a great weekend.

On Saturday, father Paul Werner won the Ciccarone Racing Products Pro race. On Sunday, it was son Adam winning in P.C. Richard & Son Street.

Adam Werner (Reading, Pa.), driving an '81 El Camino, cruised in the final after Joe McLaughlin (Pottstown, Pa.) fouled.

To get to the final, Werner had some stiff competition. He beat Mike Tomaszewski (Reading, Pa.) in the quarters by getting a slightly better RT, then racing to a 12.033 at 111.51 that was .043 over, while Tomaszewski was .045 over. In the semis, he beat Jack Grater (Zieglersville, Pa.), again using a better reaction at the start to gain the advantage. Meanwhile, McLaughlin had a bye in the quarters and then moved on when Brian Hine (Birdsboro, Pa.) fouled in the semis.

Randy Krause (Orefield, Pa.) was the winner in Goldrush Trailers Super in his '06 S&W dragster. He won by default when Maple Grove regular Scott Lorish (Center Valley, Pa.) couldn't complete his final pass because of mechanical problems with his dragster.

Krause was quick with the reaction times in both his quarter and semi runs. He had an .003 light to beat Don Mattson (Mohnton, Pa.) then had the advantage over Stephen Curtis (Malvern, Pa.) in the semis. Lorish, who won Super on Saturday, advanced when Scott Helman (Norristown, Pa.) fouled in the quarters and Jay Ralston (Plains, Pa.) broke out in the semis.

Brock Moshier (Lititz, Pa.) won his fourth Pro race of the season, beating teammate Martin Flegal (Ephrata, Pa.) in the final. Moshier had a .027 reaction time and ran 9.084 at 140.55 in his '71 Vega, .024 over his dial. Flegal was .040 off the line and was .036 over his dial.

Moshier made his way up the ladder when Gary Simpers (North East, Md.) fouled in the quarters. He then beat Dave Dissinger (Landisville, Pa.) in the semis by going .028 over his dial. Flegal had beat Roy Hall (Emmaus, Pa.) in the quarters and then had a bye in the semis.

The Junior Dragster class had a non-points race since most of the racers were competing at the NHRA Northeast Division Championships at Boonesboro, Md. Vincent Branca (Norristown, Pa.) was the winner, beating Cory Ream (Narvon, Pa.) in the final with an eighth-mile pass of 8.011 at 78.46.

Bob Bechtel (Reading, Pa.) was the Trophy class winner in a Caravan mini-van. He defeated Lynne Epprecht (Harleysville, Pa.) with a pass 18.648 at 74.58.

In Saturday's race, Scott Lorish won his first race of the season in Super. Lorish (Center Valley, Pa.) drove his '99 Cressman dragster past Mike Daniels (Devon, Pa.) in the final with a pass of 7.655 at 172.01 that was .015 over his dial-in.

Lorish made the semifinal when Frank Given (Honey Brook, Pa.) fouled in the quarterfinals, and then beat David Daniels (Carbondale, Pa.) in the semifinals by going .013 over his dial. Mike Daniels beat Ray Galie (Havertown, Pa.) in the quarters and Nick Daniels (Malvern, Pa.) in the semis.

Paul Werner (Sinking Spring, Pa.) faced fellow racing veteran Bryan Kershner (New Tripoli, Pa.) in the Pro final. Werner and his '80 Malibu got the jump off the line with a .028 reaction time and then went .008 over his dial-in with a pass of 11.508 at 114.34. Kershner broke out trying to catch up.

Werner had a bye in the quarters and then advanced through the semis when the usually tough Marty Flegal (Lititz, Pa.) broke out. Kershner earned the bye in the semis after surviving a double-breakout against Jayme Colon (Reading, Pa.) in the quarters.

Maple Grove visitor David Harvey Jr. (Berlin, N.J.) won Street in a '79 Lemans. In the final, he clinched the win when he was .011 over his dial and Dave Raser (Oxford, Pa.) broke out.

Harvey, who had a bye in the quarters, needed a better RT in the semis against Nathan Beideman (Parkesburg, Pa.). He had a .015 to .041 advantage off the line, but Beideman was perfect on his dial with a pass of 17.400 at 79.82. Harvey was able to win by going just .025 over. Meanwhile, Raser beat Elise Renninger (Leesport, Pa.) in the quarters and Tom Harhart (Elysburg, Pa.) in the semis.

Danny Boyer won his second race in a row in Top Bike. Boyer (York, Pa.) and his '72 H-2, beat Austin Youndt (Stevens, Pa.) with a pass of 10.196 at 120.76 that was .106 over his dial, while Youndt was .154 over.

Boyer beat Wayne Pyfrom (Denver, Pa.) in the quarters with a better reaction time, then beat John Lippincott (Adamstown, Pa.) with another great RT. Youndt had a tough road to the final, having to beat both former champions Joe Stuebner (Hamburg, Pa.) and Kyle Gockley (Mohnton, Pa.).

The Junior Dragsters had a non-points race with Sean Bailey (Phoenixville, Pa.) beating Katelyn Kershner (New Tripoli, Pa.) in the final by surviving a double-breakout run.

It was double-redlight final in Trophy with Charles Augustine (Kutztown, Pa.) and his '11 Challenger getting the nod over Jennifer Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa.) by showing a tad more patience.
