HEBRON, Ohio - Results of round 2 eliminations in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 39th annual
Pontiac Excitement Nationals presented by Summit Racing:
Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
6 Darrell Russell 888 Jim Head
E2 ****WINNER**** 0.048 5.491 238.47 0.089 6.143 167.80
Prior rounds:
E1 (R Hartman-Sm) 0.062 4.640 311.49 (J Starcher ) 0.072 4.587 321.12
Qualified: #5 4.589 319.29 #4 4.579 317.42
1:55 PM Current weather conditions: 79 degrees, 55 percent relative humidity, the barometer
30.14 inches, with a track temperature of 110 degrees. This is only the second time these two
have faced each other in eliminations, Russell the victor in that one. It's also the first time
this weekend the crew chiefs have been faced with a hot racing surface. Head lost traction
first, getting very sideways, then Russell smoked them, but had more momentum to work with and
managed to pedal it to the line first. The Safety Safari then headed out to do some cleanup on
the top end of Head's lane.
Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
7 Doug Herbert 4 Doug Kalitta
E2 0.038 5.267 193.54 ****WINNER**** 0.064 4.724 298.80
Prior rounds:
E1 (J Smith ) 0.049 4.703 299.06 (C Karamesine) 0.066 4.552 324.98
Qualified: #9 4.668 314.46 #1 4.508 325.30
Okay, make that a lot of cleanup in Head's lane. They used every piece of equipment in the
Safety Safari inventory. Kalitta came in with a 9-7 edge against Herbert in their careers and
ran his tally to 10-7 here in a pedaling contest. Both cars smoked the tires, but Herbert did
so before half track and Kalitta only hazed them a bit until just before the finish line. He
will have lane choice against Russell in the semifinals.
Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
201 Scott Weis 3 Tony Schumacher
E2 -0.012 5.865 152.28 ****WINNER**** 0.098 7.518 114.20
Prior rounds:
E1 (K Bernstein ) 0.068 4.911 245.05 (P Romine ) 0.068 4.547 324.44
Qualified: #10 4.688 315.05 #2 4.559 325.22
This is only the second time these two have faced each other and Schumacher dipped into the
luck bank here, Weis pulling the trigger too early and then Schumacher smoking the tires about
200 feet out. Weis appeared to lose traction at half track and both cars were silent as they
crossed the line.

5 Cory McClenathan 1 Larry Dixon
E2 0.078 4.887 256.55 ****WINNER**** 0.062 4.761 286.01
Prior rounds:
E1 (D Baca ) 0.078 4.616 324.12 (B Litton ) 0.084 4.535 326.32
Qualified: #6 4.611 321.88 #3 4.565 321.35
The two best runs of the round, Dixon with the win light after a better light and a slightly
quicker run. Both cars were soft through the first half of the track, Dixon only clocked at
250.27 mph and McClenathan 259.01 at the 660-foot mark. Dixon will have lane choice against
Schumacher in a replay of the Joliet final round.
