Smith evened the score on a holeshot, the first of her career! Smith had a psychic light, Krawiec did not, then they ran almost identical ETs.

4 Matt Smith 751 Steve Johnson
E1 0.057 6.984 187.11 ****WINNER**** 0.086 6.896 193.52

Smith is 7 - 6 against Johnson in prior events, 4 - 3 in round one.

This was a stunner! Smith struggled during qualifying, but made a good run here - however, Johnson made an even better run, just two thousandths off his career-best and low ET for the weekend, to take the win. Steve Johnson's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.042), 330 ft(-0.026), 660ft(-0.008), 1,000ft(0.022). MOV: 0.0595 seconds (approximately 16 feet).

This is the first time Hope and Underdahl have faced each other in eliminations.

Underdahl went way red and Hope made a nice run

This is the first time Tonglet and Wells have faced each other in eliminations.

They left together, but Wells had problems early in the run and Tonglet won handily. He faces Hope next round, Hope has lane choice.

8 Shawn Gann 573 Mike Berry
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.032 6.966 188.52 0.050 7.086 185.66

Gann is 5 - 0 against Berry in prior events, 3 - 0 in round one.

Gan won this one going away, but he lost lane choice to Johnson next round.

7 Karen Stoffer 1 Hector Arana
E1 0.058 8.362 109.97 ****WINNER**** 0.044 6.894 192.60
 Qualified: #15 7.111 182.55 #2 6.948 192.30
Arana is 4 - 1 against Stoffer in prior events, 2 - 1 in round one.

Stoffer's bike went to the left on two of her three qualifying runs and did so once again, forcing her to shut off to stay away from the wall. Probably didn't matter, Arana ran low ET of the weekend and will have lane choice against Hines in round two.

9 Craig Treble 457 Redell Harris
E1 0.050 7.123 190.30 ****WINNER**** 0.036 7.070 185.08
 Qualified: #1 6.932 188.96 #16 7.166 183.62
This is the first time Treble and Harris have faced each other in eliminations.

Big upset! For the first time since Englishtown last year, the #16 qualifier took out the #1 qualifier. Treble's bike was a tenth of a second off the pace in the first 60 feet and he never recovered, while Harris knocked a tenth off his qualifying time for the win. He won't have lane choice against Angie Smith in round two, however.
