10:59 a.m. There isn't a cloud in sight, it's a beautiful day in Edmonton to have a drag race.

Nobile won this one going away, more than a car length ahead at the line.

Interesting - Nobile took the right lane, Mansfield picks the left. Mansfield was way red and O'Brien gets a free pass to round two - Mansfield's car never really stopped after staging, may have had a mechanical problem.

Dobbins registers another vote for the left lane. They left together, but Goforth's car shook hard and Dobbins was unchallenged on his best run of the weekend.

Montecalvo chose the right lane - looks like lane choice isn't really an issue here.

Montecalvo was never headed and pulled away to win by about a car length.

Now we start pairing them up for round two.

These two sat in pre-stage for a long time before Gillig finally broke the deadlock and moved in - and then Morton took his full seven seconds before staging. He got a small advantage at the tree, but it wasn't big enough to hold off Gillig. Tony Gillig's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.010), 330 ft(0.003), 660ft(0.018), 1,000ft(0.029). MOV: 0.0373 seconds (approximately 12 feet). Gillig has lane choice against Nobile next round.

Good, close drag race all the way, but Berner had the power to slowly pull ahead for the win. Berner has lane choice against O'Brien next round.

Haas needed agreat light and a good run to have a shot against Patrick's demonstrated advantage this weekend - and he pulled it off! A great light and a string-straight run to hold Patrick off by inches. Jerry Haas' incremental margins: 60ft(0.059), 330 ft(0.036), 660ft(0.021), 1,000ft(0.013). MOV: 0.0091 seconds (approximately 3 feet). He does not have lane choice against Dobbins next round.

Jones made his best run of the weekend, by far, only to lose on a holeshot by the #1 qualifier, Jones unable to close the initial gap.. Frank Gugliotta's incremental margins: 60ft(0.033), 330 ft(0.031), 660ft(0.030), 1,000ft(0.031). MOV: 0.0308 seconds (approximately 10 feet). Gugliotta has lane choice over Montecalvo in the second round.
