GRAND BEND, Ont. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Knoll Gas - Torco Racing Fuels Top Fuel at the 2006 eMax Drag Racing Series, Mopar Canadian Nationals presented by Castrol: Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed 323 Chris Karamesines 301 Louie Allison E1 ****WINNER**** 0.171 5.005 257.06 0.075 7.592 105.70 Qualified: #8 6.030 227.56 #4 4.784 295.0812:34 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 57 percent, barometer 29.53 inches, adjusted altitude 1,579 feet, track temperature 105 degrees. Allison got in with a nice run, "The Greek" had to pedal through tire smoke to
squeak in. This time it was Allison with major tire smoke, until his blower belt came off past the 330-foot marker. Karamesines
hazed the tires on the top half of the run, but finished under power to advance to the semifinals. Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed 317 T.J. Zizzo 141 Bobby Lagana Jr. E1 0.049 5.933 151.51 ****WINNER**** 0.123 4.877 279.15 Qualified: #7 5.864 154.98 #3 4.753 308.74Same story here, Lagana with one good run and one that was good until the tires started spinning, Zizzo unable to get a full run in the books in two tries. Zizzo tattooed Lagan on the tree and was going away, but lost traction as he neared half track and
slowed. Lagana was late and black-tracked most of the way, but had all eight lit until just before the finish line. Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed 373 Kevin Jones 1 Clay Millican E1 -0.001 6.667 133.41 ****WINNER**** 0.076 4.987 269.05 Qualified: #6 5.117 233.76 #2 4.668 320.97This was Jones' first career eliminations round and he ended up facing the IHRA champion. Points leader Doug Foley did not qualify, so Millican had a great chance to regain the lead here. Jones took a shot at the tree and missed by a thousandth of a
second. He lost a good chance, Millican with traction problems on the top end, possibly losing the blower belt in the lights. But
the run was good enough for Millican to have lane choice against karamesines in the semifinals. Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed 443 Mitch King 4 Rick Cooper E1 0.146 5.185 207.37 ****WINNER**** 0.124 4.720 294.11 Qualified: #5 4.845 281.51 #1 4.646 313.04The top qualifiers did not fare well in Pro Modified and Pro Stock. The Nitro Funny Car #1 had a bye. But Cooper advanced with a nice run, though he, too, had some tire spin on the top end and his engine expired in the lights. King battled earlier traction problems and could not keep up. Cooper has lane choice against Lagana in the semifinals.
