Jim Lape Sets Funny Car On Its Ear

Jim Lape, running the new Kobelco "Superman" blower, stunned everyone with a 5.761
second, 24.77 mph first qualifying run. Troy Critchley, driving Johnny Rocca's
"Iron Horse" '49 Mercury Pro Modified used the same type of Roots supercharger to
take the first-day pole in that category.
