Cha Cha vs. Big Daddy
Tue, 4 Sep 2001, 01:19 PM
In a weekend filled with poignant moments, this one had to rank near the
top. To open the Saturday night Top Fuel session, Linda Vaughn escorted
Buster Couch to the starting line and Buster was the starter as two of the
biggest legends of the sport, Shirley Muldowney and Don Garlits squared off.
It would have been a true fairybook tale if "Big Daddy" had made his first 4
second, 300 mph run on this pass, but unfortunately he smoked the tires and
Shirley streaked to 4.679 at 320.20.
