Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #1
Fri, 25 Jul 2003, 06:57 PM
Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 16th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts
NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Nick Drzayich Runs 6.947/200.65, Now #1
3:33 p.m. Current weather: 81 degrees, 38% humidity, and the barometer is 29.93 and falling.
The
hometown hero lays down a pretty decent opening shot.
Left Lane: Mike Corvo Jr Runs 15.109/54.84, Now #3
Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.874/202.00, Now #1
Corvo with big-time shake in low gear. Good run for Connolly and the Bullet team.
Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.893/200.86, Now #2
Right Lane: JR Carr Runs 6.929/200.92, Now #3
Another local boy up next, as Carr makes his first pass at his home track. Both drivers get down the
track.
Left Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 10.505/90.55, Now #5
Right Lane: Ben Watson Runs 18.135/32.61, Now #7
Both drivers shake and shut off.
Left Lane: George Marnell Runs 12.989/57.33, Now #7
Right Lane: Barry Grant Runs 8.964/102.02, Now #5
Marnell made the show at Denver last week, and is looking to build on that momentum.
Marnell's car
goes left at the hit, Grant shakes and shuts off.
Left Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 6.899/200.98, Now #3
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 16.417/29.15, Now #10
Whisnant is the track e.t. record holder. Decent run for him, not-so-good for Gaines.
Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.909/200.47, Now #4
Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 8.296/115.29, Now #7
Pawuk with a best-of-the-session 1.005 60 foot time, but the car drifted toward the centerline, and he was
forced to shut off. Coughlin was straight and true.
Left Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 9.940/91.77, Now #10
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.919/200.74, Now #5
Lastor clicks it early, while Stanfield legs it out. Kind of a funky session so far.
Left Lane: Terry Adams Runs 6.878/202.27, Now #2
Right Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.892/201.52, Now #3
That's better. Great runs for both teams.
Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.864/201.67, Now #1
Right Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 15.572/41.24, Now #17
Allen got very loose and watched Yates lay down the best run of the session so far.
Left Lane: Scott Geoffrion Runs 10.195/89.03, Now #15
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.909/201.46, Now #7
Geoffrion is looking to rebound from a DNQ at Bandimere last week. Another case of the haves and the
have-nots, as Edwards goes straight and Geoffrion shuts off early.
Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 9.781/94.31, Now #14
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 17.216/27.08, Now #22
How many ways can we say "shake and shut off"? By the way, the sun has been out since about 10 a.m. No
cloud cover at all.
Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.852/201.94, Now #1
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.887/202.27, Now #5
Coughlin takes over the top spot. WJ with the big speed.
Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.827/202.97, Now #1
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.841/203.16, Now #2
Last pair of the session.
Hello! I guess that's why these two are 1-2 in the points. KJ with low
e.t. and Anderson with top speed.
